Album Review: Rihanna - LOUD

One good thing to say about Rihanna: Her work ethic is persistant. You can talk about her situation with Chris Brown which 85% of America passed on about it. Or other negative things about her like her naked pics(NOTHING NEGATIVE about that) But one thing to praise is her drive. Since 2005 when she came out with Pon DI Replay and her debut album, Rihanna drops a new album EVERY YEAR. She has hits on Billboard EVERY YEAR. Also she shows improvement between albums. Loud is no different, instead another example of her incline in her career

Loud is a fun-type album especially when it starts. The first couple tracks like S&M and Only Girl in the World(remix by Fatman Scoop) makes me think she ripping her style from House king David Guetta. Play this in a house club and crowd will go crazy. Not sure about and urban club though. But with Man Down, she delivers for the islands with Barbadoian and even some Haitian vibes. Raining Men with Nicki Minaj and What’s My Name featuring Drake are the two tracks Billboard will have relationships with. California King Bed and Love The Way You Lie pt II are the Unthinkable(slow ballads) to this album as the first mentioned is about long-distance relationships and the second is Rihanna’s response to Eminem’s version. And Skin is a track that can explain how sexy Rhi can be between the sheets

Loud will hit stores by next week. Expect most if not the whole album to be on the Billboards. Another notch in her career and a way to stay revelant all 365 days of the year.

Album Review: Trey Songz - Passion, Pain, Pleasure

Trey shows that his reign on the R&B throne is not a fluke. After a successful turnout of his last album , Ready , he drops Passion, Pain, Pleasure , just a year after Ready. And from what I heard, this tape may cause more pregnancies then all my Sexual Seduction tapes combined. Reason why I say this is because of a past project. If you recall, before he dropped Ready, he dropped what was basicallu one of the top R&B mixtapes of 2009 with Anticipation. It was more personal, deeper, more intimate, So when Ready was more on the Pop side, people became skeptical. I guess Trey's management spotted that which is why PPP is more like Anticipation, which in return increase his fans' adoration by miles.

I like that he does most of the album BY HIMSELF to show his range and talent. Only features I spot are Bottoms Up with Nicki Minaj and Unusual with Drake. Also some tracks still have the sexual feel as well as being club hits, like 'Alone' and 'Blind'. But the majority of the album is very intimate like the radio hit 'Cant Be Friends'. Something that the ladies are longing for , Trey will provide.

Personally, he stepped up from Ready. Now it's proof, his reign is not a fluke. Hopefully this can inspire more intimate R&B records like back in the 90s that we all grown to love
And as i see, people are already trying to make babies to PPP. LOL. Don't send Tremaine Aldon Neverson the child support bill. You are responsible for your actions.

2010 MTV VMAs Recap

Late night talk show host Chelsea Handler hosted the 2010 MTV Video Awards, being the first woman in 16 years to do so. While the night featured a number of Hip Hop performances, The genre did not fare so well in the awards aspect.

Eminem opened the show with the first single from his Recovery album, "Not Afraid" and was later joined by Rihanna to perform "Love the Way You Lie." Em won two awards, including Best Male Video and Best Hip Hop Video, but left after his performance to join Jay-Z on their New York/Detroit tour.

Rick Ross made a quick and somewhat bizarre appearance on an electric scooter, picking up Handler and not appearing on the show again.

As has been reported this past week, Taylor Swift recently wrote a song for Kanye West, which she performed during the show. The song was reported to have been a sort of "forgiving" for Kanye's infamous antics at last year's VMAs. While much of the lyrics felt unrelated to the rapper, others were spot-on references to 'Ye: '32 is not growing up now/Who you are is not what you did/ You're still an innocent…Everyone of us has messed up too.'

Drake was joined by Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz on the piano. The trio performed the T.I.-featured "Fancy," although T.I. did not attend the awards show, possibly because of recent drug charges.

5-time VMA nominee B.o.B. took the stage with both Bruno Mars and Hayley Williams to perform both "Nothing On you" and "Airplanes." However, B.o.B did not win any awards.

New G.O.O.D. artist Pusha T joined Kanye West, who was the last performer of the night. West raised a toast to all the "douche bags," "assholes," "scum bags," and "jerk offs" in reference to last year's VMA fiasco. "You've been putting up with my shit for way too long," he sang during the performance.

While Eminem left the awards show early, Jay-Z (who was also nominated for awards) did not attend the show, nor did wife Beyonce. Nicki Minaj lost out on the Best New Artist Award to Justin Beiber, while Pop artist Lady Gaga ended up taking home many of the awards including Best Female Artist and Video Of The Year for "Bad Romance."

Things Benz noticed:

-Em proved he still the best to do it.

-Nicki performance is wierd but wierd is offically in

-Justin took a page outta MJ's book in dancing and can be Linkin Park's drummer.

-Drake's performance was REAL especially with Mary J, the Queen of R&B

-Em can add on to his legacy by albums like Recovery

-Kanye was great making a sample live and shoutout to the assholes, and getting the very same ppl that booed him a year ago jump on his D**k again

-Lady Gaga swept the awards. SWEPT. She is now Madonna. Respect

Once you allow people into your personal space, it usually doesn’t strengthen the bond, it tends to separate it and if they haven’t already become engaged or really ready to move to that next level anyway, moving in together is a minor technicality. I wouldn’t suggest it at all. It’s always good to keep as much personal space from someone as possible until you’re ready to share everything.

PARLOUR: What’s your advice on choosing a mate?

The most important is to choose someone with whom you feel you can build something. As a woman you don’t just want to get with a man that’s a good provider because if anything happens to that provider, you’ll be left to find another one and you’ll never learn how to provide for yourself. If you’re a woman in that type of relationship, there will eventually be a child involved and you don’t want to be that type of mother to your child. So before you look to get married, make sure you have some sort of training or that you’ve learned a way to contribute and make money should your provider fall by the way side. But the best scenario is to have two like minded individuals working towards the same goals both of them equally enjoy building up something until they establish that foundation where one of them can choose to take the time off to raise a child, that’s the perfect situation. Well, actually the really perfect situation is that they grind hard so they can retire and raise a child together. Good luck finding that.

PARLOUR: We just finished Aliya S. King’s novel called “Platinum” which made life as a rapper who’s committed to his wife or girlfriend seem damn near impossible. What’s your advice on staying true as a husband and an MC in the entertainment business?

First, let me address the stigmatization that comes with that statement. I don’t think that it’s strictly something that deals with rappers, of course you see it in the entertainment industry, actors and athletes, but a lot of that just means the person might have money but they definitely have notoriety. A lot of people compromise themselves for some sort of notoriety, but if everyone knew who really had money in this world, things would be much different. We have lots of millionaires and billionaires that no one notices because what they earn money from isn’t in the public eye.

The entertainment industry actually fosters adoration—come let me entertain you and come let you adore me—that’s the exchange that goes on in the entertainment industry. It’s where the athlete becomes the performer and you have these big arenas that seat thousands of people to watch them. To both the adoring fan and the entertainer, this dynamic can be a little bit overwhelming, especially if you weren’t the star quarterback in high school for example. It’s very hard for people not to embrace that attention, though it’s easier for a woman not to embrace it because of how women are raised and taught. A woman doesn’t have to be famous for men to fawn over her, so usually when women become famous it’s not a big thing. Men, however, are totally different. Most come into fame stable but trying to build a relationship with people who don’t want them for a sincere purpose.

The advice I usually offer young entertainers and athletes is be smarter than your dick because your dick is going to make decisions that your brain would be totally against. The hardest thing for mankind, men and women, to deal with is the attraction of the flesh. It’s a daily struggle. For example, I used to smoke cigarettes for years and I quit. Do I still want cigarettes? Yes, every time I see someone smoking a cigarette I’m jealous, but I won’t have one because I know it’s bad for me. These are personal choices that people have to make, now have I been in a situation where I’ve almost taken a cigarette because I was just that down and out? Yes, that’s when you have to really reach for strength. No one is perfect. Relationships can be difficult just based on who left the lights on last night, or who ate the last pork chop—that kind of shit will bring the roof down much less infidelity. I know many households where privacy is a bigger violation than infidelity, it all depends on the individual involved.

In my personal situation with the woman I married—been together for 12 years married for seven—has demanded honesty from me. Initially I wasn’t used to that because most people in relationships prior to her had just accepted whatever I told them to be part of the ride, but my wife actually cared about me as a person so she wasn’t impressed by my fame. With her, she said ‘I know this isn’t going to be easy, you just have to be honest with me at all times. If you don’t want to be with me, don’t take the time to fall out of love with me, meet other people, fall in love with someone else and then say you don’t want to be with me. Tell me when you fall out of love and that you don’t want to be with me because of me and I can deal with that. Don’t bring other people into this.’

I don’t think these kinds of line are laid out for people. Women have to do a better job of defining the parameters of their relationships and they have to be willing to stick to it.

PARLOUR: Do you think women don’t utilize the power we have in relationships? How can we be better?

You have to stop using your power in relationships for purses and shoes. There’s nothing wrong with wanting nice things, but if all you’ve built your relationship around is making sure you can maintain these nice things then that’s the only parameter to which he’s going to be loyal and faithful. So when you get mad about other things, he’s going to say ‘all you ever wanted was this and I gave you this all the time. You never said this was going to be an issue.’ There’s no such thing as implicit understanding in the bowels of a relationship. I’m going to tweet that.

PARLOUR: Hm, we figured it’s better to ask you, a guy who’s been in a relationship for 12 years, dating and marriage advice rather than someone who’s single or recently wed.

I’ll be honest, when my wife and I got together, we had the same issues that everyone else had. I was not a mature person and I made some very poor choices. It came down to me having to accept a certain amount of responsibility as a man. Once we got married and the things that weren’t normally an issue, like money and infidelity, were no longer an issue, that still doesn’t mean that there are no issues. Now because we spend so much time in each other’s personal space, that becomes a problem.

PARLOUR: Where’s your personal space at home?

I tend to go and stand in our formal dining room, that’s my space. Of course I can’t sit in there because those are the good chairs.

10. As some models shy away from hosting mixtapes, you went full fledged on it. talk about your mixtape series with DJ Gutta and the success behind it (150,000 downloads)

i needed more promo and ppl to see me. so my former manager at the time decided it was best for me to start going full fledged with promo and doing mixtapes. now we have built a series off of it and lots of promo use for them. i didn't realize how successful the series was going to turn out. i just completed volume 5 and will be coming out with volume 6 soon. from those series i have done lots of mixtapes drops for various mixtapes and artist and lots of radio drops and interviews on the series alone.

11. You are also a boss. You are working on a reality show giving an inside look to the world of modeling. What do you want viewers to see? What will get exposed in this project?

how hard it really is for a female to come up into a male dominated industry. what its really like as an entertainer and performer behind the scenes. how much hard work events and party promo really is.

12. You are also opening up a modeling agency. What type of models you are looking for?

i am looking for all different types of models. i conducted a lot of interviews with a lot of faces. but now i know that there is nothing like meeting someone on the street or one on one for real actual work. i am mainly looking for females who want to work and not play 24/7

Album Review: Rick Ross: Teflon Don

Album Review - Teflon Don

It's interesting to follow Rick Ross' career. It's also to follow the hype of this album, Teflon Don. His album was pushed back to this tuesday by dealing with a lawsuit by the Real Ricky Ross. After surpassing the trial, he had rights to continue under his name. He also had to deal with his past coming about when the world found out he was a corrections officer. That fueled the conflict with an emcee that frequently deals with beef, 50 Cent. A lot of fans ultimately left because of distrust to him about his truth to his lyrics. Then we can talk about his affilation with P. Diddy. That's a whole other story. So hence it's his 4th studio album as he reps Miami once again. There's a lot of positive feedback on this album. So what do I think?

Well, it certainly helps making a sucessful project when you feature basically ALL of the best emcees AND singers the world has to offer. Jay-Z, Erykah Badu, John Legend, Kanye West, T.I., Trey Songz, Jadakiss, Styles P, Raphael Saadiq, Drake, Ne-yo are just the majority of the features on this record and ALL are in the forefront in some way(basically like how the Miami Heat was formed). But Rick Ross does deliver. He brought in the intro with force on "I'm Not a Star" but one record that should be granite is "Free Mason" with Jay-Z and John Legend. The way they intertwined their religious devotion to their success is mind-blogging but somehow easing. Also turned off rumors of Jay as a Mason. "Live Fast, Die Young" with Kanye West was a fun record that sounds a little futuristic.

Another thing to commend is the production of this album. I thought his last album Deeper Than Rap was hot. On this album, all musical elements was melted to lava. These producers (Kanye West, No I.D., Danja, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, The Inkredibles, Clark Kent, Lex Luger, The Olympicks, The Remedy) made a grand slam with this one as they made this record seems theatrical. The way you can appreciate the sound is almost the same lesson as going to an orchestra. The record to describe this the most is "Maybach Music III" with T.I, Jadakiss and Erykah Badu. The way the beat changes IS a movie.

For the streets, MC Hammer with Gucci Mane and his single B.M.F. with Styles P is a double dose to subdue. I just wish these two records don't sound EXACTLY the same. No. #1 with Trey Songz and P. Diddy looks better on paper. Even though the beat is fun, it sounds like the featured artists were uncomfortable on that record. All the Money in the world with Saadiq was a good concept. Some things are more important than money. One is telling Rozay to stop singing on the hook! lol

My favorite track? Aston Martin Music.......perfectly structured with Drake and Chrisette Michele. Not punchline heavy but you can listen to this record 5 times and not be bothered.

Overall, you see how Rick Ross stepped up. Punchlines are more potent but more noticeable you hear more hunger in his voice. Usually it's the opposite when an artist makes it. You may want him to talk less about money-related issues but he combines it with real life issues to make it more relative to the average listeners. Now you can put your negative opinions about and you have your right. But two things you have to accept:

One: He went to the top of the game, fell down for various reasons, and went back to the top, to the EXACT level of excitement. Only a Few artists did that

Two: He KNOWS how to structure a SONG. Something you can listen to in the future.

He may not be the Real Rick Ross.......but in this case, he is a valid artist.

Well right now I gained a little weight so my exact measurements are 34DD-25-38, I am 5'3.

6. What is the scenery, photographers and settings you need to make it a perfect photoshoot for you?

Just really laid back professional photographer who knows how to shoot so my energy is not wasted. The scenery doesn't matter because I know what I'm doing distractions, noise or even other people don't affect me when I shoot... I zone out! Its just me and the camera...

7. You were also a Playboy Cybergirl from 05-07. What are your opinions of posing nude? Do you recommend an upcoming model to do so?

Yes I was! Its not for everyone but at the time it seemed like a great idea because I was so flattered to that they even considered me. Just being associated with Playboy is awesome, shooting in their legendary studio is awe-inspiring.

8. Here's a real question. We were discussing at a past radio show (shoutout to J Milly) about some model's behaviors to get ahead in the business. According to you, what percentage of models smash or get it in to get ahead? (example: Half)

If we are specifically referring to the urban industry, I would 69% of the ones being seen right now and 87% of the ones trying to get on. That's just being realistic... sorry if this offends anyone...

9. At that radio show you showed no hate on Kat Stacks. I know what she is doing is smart. Explain what Kat Stacks is doing that is right.

Of course I showed no hate on Kat Stacks.. hate her for what she hasn't done anything to me. Actually I said she has great marketing skills..she 1 of kind... we (the industry) have never seen anything like her. Yes there was Superhead but she takes it to another level.

I just hope she harnesses them makes some money of her exposure.

10. In your opinion, why do you think some people act fake to get ahead in the industry? How important is it to be real and set your own terms?

They act fake because its easier... cowards way out instead making the own waves, they ride the ones that come by instead. For me it's everything, It takes a special person to stand on their own individuality and everyone isn't strong enough or has the resolve to do that.

11. Where's the perfect place a man can take you out on a date?

He can take me shopping.... naw just kidding. Going out to eat, to club or a movie just fine with me...

12. Sex or relationship? Also how important is sex in a relationship?

Relationship. Sex is thrown around too much..its gotten way too casual. Relationships are hard, they require work..sex is easy.

13. Craziest thing a guy has done to get to you because of his infatuation.

Well I don't have many of those because I have been inaccessible and preoccupied with my work.

14. What are your personal feelings as you pose for a magazine?

I just look at camera as if it were my boyfriend and proceed to make love to him with my eyes and poses... sometimes its playful... sometimes passionate.

I just like to hang out and relax, I go to the movies a lot, bowling, eating at nice restaurants, travel. That type of thing....

Hip hop has grown to a universe that goes past all boundaries. There are now places you wouldn't think there would be Hip-Hop. My friend is a DJ in Alaska. After Punjabi you see this culture in India. One place that Hip hop has taken over is in Paris, France. Europe is filled with people eager to absorb all their is in our culture that started in New York. Some people even take it further and join the culture themselves. This Boardman is close to the Champ-Elysee. But his sound can be riding in DC. I had to go cross-Atlantic to discover this beat assassin (Shoutout to Certified good lookin!). This man has a track record, working with Akon, Dirty Money, Melanie Fiona! So mes amis, garcons et mademoiselles, C'est le producer de Universial Records BKS (yes let me drop my french. in English, people, here's BKS)

1. Bonjour, BKS, Ca va? Introduce yourself to the rest of the world.

Wass goin on world, I go by James BKS, Music producer under G Prod / SRC

2. So tell me where you from. What part of France? You still live in France right?

I was born and raised in Paris, France. I moved to the U.S. (D.M.V. area) in 2002. I am currently in Paris for a few months, but I’ll be back to the states in September.

3. The difference between Hip hop in France and the States.

I’d say that we embrace Hip Hop culture and can relate to some extent, to what rappers are talking about. But when it comes to the music itself, we usually follow whatever it’s out; not to say that French rappers ain’t original, but for instance when Crunk music popped off in the US, it took us a little time to get familiar with it. Then, when French rappers started following that trend, it was already on to the next one in the U.S.

That’s because these trends come from a cultural background that we don’t have; we just gonna feel the vibe, the whole energy around it and we’ll copy it.

4. The impact US Hip hop have on music in Europe:

The Hip Hop movement is pretty big out here. We’re actually the largest consumer of rap music after the US in Europe, with Germany and England. It affects the way we speak, the way we dress, etc.

5. When did you start producing? Why did you get hooked on it?

I started making beats in 05. I been a music fan ever since I can remember but I didn’t take it seriously until I met this dude named Liban, who became my manager and a close friend. He was the first to believe I had potential to make it in the music industry. We ended up working together and we put out a mixtape in 06 with local acts from the DMV spitin over my beats. The mixtape was called “All we ask is trust”.

Liban was booking showcases and concerts all over the world for artists like Akon, Sean Paul, Fat Joe, etc... He did even set up one of the biggest show in Africa with Jay-z and Beyonce, with the help of Gibson, who was working with Akon closely at the time. Gibson and I became good friends, which led to a business relationship later on. He’s the one who took my career to the next level.

6. What is your style of production?

I’d like to think I’m all around. I listen to all kinds of music from alternative rock to music scores. I wannabe able to create without being stuck in the same box.

7. Talk about the production you did on the french hip hop scale like "King" album and "Pour que tu restes"

The “King” song was my first major placement in Europe. It was on Booba’s album which went gold with over 80 000 units. I particularly like that song because of Rock City’s performance on it. It was also my first collabo of many with Rock City who are, in my opinion, the hottest songwriters in the game right now.

“Pour que tu restes” should have been the first single of Vitaa’s latest album but ended up being the second one. The whole move went kind of bad business wise. I’m not gonna get into details but let’s just say that I won’t work with that kind of artist anymore.

With that being said, this was still a good look for me because she’s one of the biggest Rn’b act in my country and she usually moves good units so let’s see how it turns out.

8. Talk about your other collaborations in the states. You did a lot...You were involved in projects with Melanie Fiona? Asher Roth? how was working with them?

I’ve had the chance to work with numerous songwriters like Kalenna (from Dirty Money), Rock City, Verse Simmonds, dre Meritt or Chasity, who I think are dope.

I also produced a song called “What’s a love affair” for Raheem Devaughn, two songs for Shontelle “Fairy Tale”, “Heart breaker”, but the best is yet to come.. . as far as Asher Roth and Melanie Fiona, I am actually signed under the same label as those two recording artist (S.R.C.), I am currently working on submissions for their coming projects.

9. How did you react when you got signed to Universal?

Man, my team and I (G Prod) have been working hard to get to that level. The recent placements we had in Europe, with “Groove On” which I produced for Timati and Snoop Dogg, as well as “Something like a party”, that my label mate, Jordan, produced for the group called school gyrl in the states (reached top 5 of the dance charts), really got us the attention from the labels.

We ended up signing with S.R.C / Universal which has been a great look for us.

10. Business-wise is it better for a producer to be signed to a major label? Why or why not?

I’d say it really depends on the network and A&R’s that you are working with. Plus you wanna make sure that the label who signs you, really has projects which will get release. Otherwise you gonna get stuck in a deal that does not allow you to work outside of the camp, and you won’t get no placements because the artists that are under your label don’t get their work released.

I think it’s crucial for music producers in this game to have a few good placements by themselves before approaching a major. You don’t want to look for a deal, you wanna have labels and major looking to sign you.

11. What you working with in the studio? like the board, drum machine, etc?

I work with fruity loops and a couple of VST’s. I own a Quosmio Laptop but I’m thinking about getting a Mac…I got teased so many times lately because I was bringing my “huge portable PC” at the studio, while everyone else were using Mac’s…so we’ll see.. lol.

12. How important it is to gain an education in this industry? How big of an advantage a producer or an artist got when they have a degree?

Well first of all, the industry is constantly changing and evolving, it is really important to be up to date with what’s going on, and to have a good understanding of the business behind the music. Plus we all witness how the record sales went down this past few years…it is so important to have a plan B nowadays because you might be hot one months and the next one not getting any work done nor placements..

13. The artists you would love to work with.

I am huge Jay-Z fan so I would say Jigga, but Rick Ross is getting better and better, his last mixtape is hot. I hope to get a chance to work with him one day. “I Think I’m big Meeech” lol

14. Be honest. How is Tony Parker as a rapper? Lol

Well…I hope he’s not taking it too seriously! Let’s just say he is a great Ball player! How about kobe bryant’s music career? lol

15. What are your future projects we should look out for?

Jordan and I just did that crazy song for Tiffany Evans, I can’t wait for this one to get released. You can also look forward to the next Ja Rule projects, he’s coming back hard. We got other few good placements coming, I can’t really talk about it right now but it’s gonna be a good year!

16. What motivates you?

In this issue of "In The Boardroom" I decided to take it to the south. Everyone knows Miami has their own Rico Suave/2 live crew freak nasty sound. That sound became a premier sound in the game. Call it how you want but try to name one artist that steered clear from the whole sound altogether, not even one track. You can't. And the good thing about the game is that newcomers are up to play.
I decide to interview this beatman because I see a lot of potential in him but not a lot of promo. As you know I'm the person to bring out new faces first. Just like the past producers he has a distinct sound with a desire to evolve into a frontrunner. So today's "In The Boardroom" I present to you a contradiction to the 305's weather: Ice(or you can call him A.I.)

Introduce yourself to the world homie:

What up world, this ya boy producer "A.I", always known as "Ice".

You are another boardman from the 305 with great sound. Talk about the sound of Miami and how far it has come in the hip hop game.

I definitely appreciate the love from everyone who is supporting me. As far as the sound of Miami, its incredible and shouldn't expect nothing but bigger and better things from the MIA. I think the sound of the south and particularly Miami has come a long way. I feel a good example is Rick Ross. Ross makes music for the streets but he also makes that "good music" to sell albums. I believe we all as artist and producers from Miami is raising the bar and pushing each other to be the best.

What made you want to become a producer and how long have you been laying down the snares and 808s?

I became a producer because I felt that it was something that came natural to me. I personally feel that I came a long way. The beats I made in 02 which is when I started is no where near to who I am now. I also believe as well as a few others that can cosign, is that every month or every year, they have seen some major improvement and sicker beats you know.

Who influenced you in hip hop?

I believe its pretty common to use a pro's as an example which would be Kanye West, Timbaland and Swizz Beats and ect. To be honest, I would have to give all the credit to Quest. When I was young my mother would keep me from listening to a lot of hip hop and mostly rap music.. I never heard about the beef between Jay-z and Nas until I was in high school. When I was in 12th grade I took Quest Ipod and I got exposed to all the classic hip hop that I needed to hear to figure what it was all about. Also working with

Quest in the studio got me caught up to speed lol.

What you think caused the difference with the sound of rap in the 90s and now?

I figure at the end of the day its about making money. Whatever is making the money is whats going to sell and be sold in stores. Its about making the people move and satisfying the needs of our listeners. Sometimes certain artist set trends and set standards and we as artist or producers have to fit those needs. I think the most important thing is that we all be ourselves and make the best of our opportunity.

What is your resume looking like? (The artists you have worked with)

I mostly worked with Quest. I did a record with Smitty "Where dey at" but it really didn't get pushed out. Well for some those who are fans, its probably a shame I haven't worked with many people. I guess that's the reason for doing this interview.

Currently you are working with underground artist Quest (i spin him on radio a lot recently) What about him has drawn yourself to his style?

That is a good question. Basically Quest and I we have been on the same page since day 1. For whatever reason what I produce is what he likes to rap on. What most people don't know is that me and Quest went to the same high school. We've been working together since. I came in the school studio one day and brought some instrumentals.Quest digged into the composition book and did a song in 20 minutes. We both developed our skills working together and that's why we are at where we are today.

You are also working with Breeze from 24HourHipHop. When that mixtape coming out?

I have no idea to keep it real. I just know I have a few bangers on there and i hope everyone enjoys it.

What makes a perfect blend of an artist and a producer? example would be Drake and 40/Boi-1da

I believe you have me stuck I can't answer that question (just kidding). I feel like you gotta have a similar personality and taste in music.

Talk about your style of beats:

To keep it simple, I am pretty balanced. I am open to all music and whatever comes to mind I will do. I mostly make rap music and soulful singers can do the hooks.

What you working with in the studio? like the board, drum machine, etc?

That's another interesting question. I basically have a midi keyboard with a sound module Roland 2080. I record my samples that I play into cubase and export it.I use Magix Music Maker which I cut, copy and paste my drums. Then placed the samples I played into the same Magix arrangement. That's how I started and I am raised to make beats that way.

What are your future projects about? One of them is Quest's album "The Reason"

Yes sir, Quest "The Reason" is the first album that I am working on. There is going to be a lot of familiar sounds you may heard before and then some new sounds but its definitely refreshing. I basically reference from some of the biggest producers but I put my twist to it to make it A.I production.

How important is maintain good working relationships?

I feel that in this world its about who you know and not what you know or what you can do. A lot of people may have connects but because of the way they may conduct themselves, they can really throw a lot of opportunity. I feel most people take criticism about their music to heart and give off a negative response to others which I don't. I personally would rather work with people that have good character and some talent vs all the talent in the world and don't want to be around them. I feel that I am the type of person that you can take to your house and the money you have on the table won't come up missing lol.

The one thing that motivates you?

I would say people believing in me.

What is the top potential you see in your production style?

I believe when you listen to my music the drum patterns you hear is what stands out.

This artist has a lot of charisma. By her style and her persona you can tell she does it from the soul. That's when it is most personal. Her whole life has be scattered with accomplishments, both as a child and as an adult. She also has gone through tragedies that no one should faced. To bounce back more than ever shows total resilience. I was blown away when I heard her tracks first on Hustle & Grind Radio (shoutout to J Milly). I was even more stunned when I heard her live through my messed-up phone. She still sound phenomenal. With all of that she still is a very sweet, kind woman. But she's probably one of the toughest women I've came across in some time. (She doesn't know this but I pretty much decided she should host Sexual Seduction 7. Let her find out reading this lol )

1. State your name lady.

2. Where you representing?

I'm from Washington DC

3. You have been bitten by the music bug for as long as you can remember. How important is music in your family?

Awwww..... music is extremely important to my family. It's the core foundation of our unit. My Grandmother and her sisters had a group back in their day. They had the clean vocals, fly gear, hair done and makeup flawless. They would shut it down every performance. They were fierce!!! My father is a pianist, so I grew up sitting beside him on his piano bench singing while he played. I have great memories of my Dad and I singing together.

4. How was it like being a young kid traveling with your choir to perform? Did it beat having less memories as a normal child?

You know what that's a really good question. In the midst of all the traveling I never felt like I was missing out on my childhood. I guess because I was doing what I love, so it never felt like work. And my cousins would look forward to hearing about my experiences, so their excitement made me feel special, and kept me motivated to keep going. But I do have some great memories as a young performer and I wouldn't trade those memories for anything in the world.

5. Tell the readers the accomplishments you had as a child.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! I was apart of a group based out of DC that somehow had the privilege of becoming the poster choir for "The Border Baby Project" backed by the White House Administration. We recorded a couple theme songs for the project and whenever the President had a speaking engagement, we were there right by his side. The political community really fell in love with us. So any event that DC was hosting we were there, singing our little hearts out!!! LOL

We were invited to sing at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree every year (which was one of my favorite events) people from all around the world would come to that particular event.

6. How important is education to you?

Education is extremely important to me. It takes more than just a pretty face and a big voice to make it in this industry. And I had it bad as a child, my mother was an educator. She was actually the principal of my elementary school. I couldn't get away with NOTHING!!!!!!! LOL...but all jokes aside, she taught me the importance of having an education, and knowing what I wanted to do in life.

7. How hard was it to come back to music in your 20s? Were you "rusty" or was it like riding a bicycle again?

LOL..... It was like riding a bike. I fell right back into my place like I had never left. Honestly I stopped performing but I never stopped singing or writing. So, getting back into it was very natural for me.

8. This question is personal and I feel iffy about asking so if you don't want to answer, it's ok. What made you decide to move on after the tragic passing of your son?

Hmmmmmm...... his death knocked me off my feet. Have you ever felt like a certain situation in life caused you to almost loose it??? Well, that's what that situation did to me. So one day I woke up and decided the best thing for me to do was to get away from everybody and focus on me and work on healing myself. So, I packed my bags and drove to Los Angeles, CA from Washington DC. What a liberating feeling to drive across the country....

9. What does music do to you?

Music heals me, makes me laugh, makes me cry, makes me wanna fight, makes me wanna make love. No matter what emotion I'm feeling at any given moment...there's a song out there that can give me what I need.

11. Who do you look up to in R&B?

I adore Mary J Blige for her tenacity and strength. And Anita Baker is my all time favorite, her vocals are clean and rich and she's just the truth....Hands Down!!!! If I could go on tour with either of them I would be in heaven!!! Sheer heaven!!!

12. You have the podium. To you, what is the state of R&B today and what should change?

Honestly, R&B is in a sad state right now. We're loosing our audience. POP is taking over, which is cool but it shouldn't cause R&B to be obsolete. If I want to hear some real R&B I have to listen to some old school jams, and that's sad.

13. Who did you featured with in the past?

LOL..... I guess you're speaking of Pharrell. I have a song called TKO and it has a feature from your boy. It's a hott record, if I must say so myself.

14. Tell me about your latest project thats about to hit stores.

I actually have 2 projects that I'm excited about right now. I have a project dropping next month called "The 4Bidden Mixtape" , it's like the appetizer before the main course. Now my main course..that's my baby right there!!! I'm talking bout my actual album, that will hit the stores at the end of the year. It's untitled at the moment, but I'm really pumped about the direction that the album is going. I call my music "Feel good music with a Sexy, Sassy Kick"!!! I think you're going to love it!!!

15. What does Nia like to do in her spare time?

Mannnnnn...... I'm such a home body. I love sipping on a good glass of wine and chillin' in my house while watching a good movie. My girls tease me cause I never want to go out. But, if I were to go kick it with my folks, I would go bowling and shoot some pool ( I suck at pool but I talk big trash..so that keeps my opponent nervous!!!) LOL

16. Single or taken? What qualities in a man that will get you attracted?

I knew that question was coming soon... LOL!! Let's just say, when I'm dating a man I appreciate someone with the greatest since of humor. I also love it when he has his own sense of style, if his swag game is on 1000!!! Good Lawd... I'm all in there!! LOL!!! And last but not least, he has to have ambition, he must be driven and have an intense passion for growth and success!!!!

17. What's the ultimate goal for Nia?

WOW!!!! There's so much that I want to do. But I guess my ultimate goal would be to re-introduce R&B to the new generation.

18. One thing you would like to change about society.

That list is long.... but if I would change one thing ... I guess it would be, the pressure that society puts on women to be perfect. I watch my lil 10 year old cousin go out of her way to be the baddest 10 year old in her school. She wants to look like all the model chicks, video vixens and I'm like you're only 10. Calm down....what are you doing?????

So, I wish society would just let us be free to be who we are. Big, Small, Curvy, Slim...whatever God blessed us with we need to love it to the fullest!!!!

Mixtape Review: Jacki-O - Griselda Blanco

If you been following me, or the Fleet DJs or just know good music out, you know that Griselda Blanco is being much anticipated for the last several months now. In 2010 Jacki-O has come back with a vengeance, doing a lot of features, including Tommy Stars. With this mixtape, La Madrina will definitely put a footnote to remind people.

A lot of people know Jacki by her sexual overdosed tracks like Nookie. She did not disappoint with P***Y like Dope (also on SS6). With her comparing her bubblegum to that piff, everyone's hooked on that. She also got a radio smash hit for the summer called "Love My Gangsta". The streets can definitely relate to that as it goes down the same avenue as DMX -How's its goin down or Eve - together.

Another reason why to cop this tape is that she goes in and goes gutta. She's done a good job portraying the female drug queen in the 80s going hard on her bars as well as even stretching out her singing voice, especially on "Lord Forgive Me".

ALBUM REVIEW: Drake - Thank Me Later

For over a year, the whole industry and its fans were waiting on this LP as Drake continued to climb the mountain of Hip-Hop immortality. Since he dropped his historic So Far Gone mixtape (which has now sold over 400,000 units as an EP), Drake has been the #1 or close to #1 artist talked about. From surprising features to prolific interviews to syndicated videos, he always find a way to stay in your ear or the screen. Not bad from October's Very Own from Toronto. Few weeks ago the LP(just like every f**kin album) leaked to the public. Two years ago, The Carter III leaked ans still did a million. Will the offishall debut of Drake do the same? Possibly.

As far as the features, he had a whole lot of aid. Alicia Keys went alongside Drake in the premier track, "Fireworks". Boi-1Da will always deliver as he is the top sound right now. T.I and Swiss Beats delivered with Drizzy on "Fancy" as it can be a club hit. Drake and Lil Wayne basically went ignant s**t once again on "Miss Me". The Top feature is one of the legends teaching Drake about legacy as Jay-Z drops an intoxicating verse on "Light Up". The surprising thing is that Drake can keep it up with anyone he gets on the track with. (Drake! where the Dr.Dre produced track with Eminem huh???)

One track I can truly respect. "Show me a Good Time" Kanye laid the crazy 808 as usual. The DJ that scratched on it was nasty and Drake went in on history including a shoutout to J Dilla.

This album is worth the hype for 2010 However.........

When you compare debuts from legends like Nas' Illmatic , Biggie's Ready to Die, Eminem's Slim Shady LP & Marshall Mathers LP , I'm not sure if TmL can rank among these relics of time. These artists went in on personal subjects, from beefs with their mothers to sclling crack and heroin, to being broke and starving, with your stomach close to your ribs. Also these artists make you seriously think with memorable , complex lyrics. Drake however made this album "for your girlfriend" and went in on different tales of adultery. Yes, some of these words make you think and have some complexion But.......Can TML sell 2 million if it came out the same week as a Tupac album in 1996? That i'm not sure.

These beats are sickening. Drake amped up his vernacular another notch. Every song on here can be a hit. Thank Me Later is worth the hype. For now it is the #1 album of 2010. One of the best since graduation. Drake is definitely top 5 right now........but if you talking about legacy, if you talking about history and being among Pac, Snoop, Em, Jay. or Big, That's when Thank Me Later has a reasonable doubt. Drake will have to follow up on his next LP. Then we can thank him fully.

About one year ago, I got serious with my modeling. I stuck with it because I do not give up on anything I want to do. It's not easy because there is alot of competition out here. But I don't have a problem standing out.

Yes I have been featured in several Print magazines Like Straight Stuntin Issue #11 and more as well as online magazines. I've done several Music Videos with artists such as Camron, Vado, Sarani, Chrisette Michelle, Wale, Jim Jones etc..

7. What's the one thing you would like to tell future models about this business, especially about how they should be treated?

Know what you are aiming for. Don't give up and don't compromise your Integrity for no one.

8. I saw your exercise video on your site(Yes I'm a dude and my eyes widened like the Owl lol) But seriously how often do you work out and how important it is to keep in shape?

Being in shape is very important. I do not do strenuous workouts often like I should, but I love to run. So I do alot of jogging and walking. Im also a very active person so i'm constantly moving.

9. What is your perfect type of photoshoot? like what settings do you prefer?

I love to work outdoors. The photographer has to be cool and I must be able to vibe with him.

10. I also see that you are also an actress and a rapper. You the jack-of-all-trades! How important is it to be in more than one avenues of the game? What else do you do?

It is important because If one door don't open the next one just might and that can be the door that can lead you to your real dreams. But I like to call myself an entertainer on all aspects.

11. Tell me about your music career. Any new projects coming on from you soon?

I'm working on my mix tape "Pitbull in a Mini Skirt". Rapping is actually my number one love. My mixtape will be bonified fire.

12. Be honest. How many times a week people try to holla at you.

All day, Every day, 7 days a week. 99% of men who pass me on the street either stare me down or try to holla. Even the ones with they girls and children. SMH

13. At this moment in your life, you prefer a relationship, or a temporarily fling? What type of man catches your eye?

I don't do flings. I like relationships. A man that catches my eye is Hardworking, Independent, Caring, Giving, Must be able to handle a sexy Independent women, Has Morals and must, must , must have a sense of humor!

14. Your opinion on hip hop right now.

It's Ok. There are a few good Artists and then there's the washed up Artists who needs to give up. Then there's the Artists who should have never been put on in the first place.

Scarface "Disrespected" By VH1 Hip Hop Honors

Previously they invited the legend Scarface to be honored at this year's show. He declined. At first you would think why. Then more bullish came up. After reading what Scarface said in his interview with Ozone magazine, you will have a better understanding why.

Personally I was chopped and screwed when i realized Outkast is not on the show. There's NO Hip hop history without Outkast. Anyway, this is what Scarface has to say:

I was nominated [to be honored at the Dirty South Hip Hop Honors] but I declined to accept because I don’t wanna be classified as just “Dirty South.” I’m Hip Hop, man. I’m not going because I feel slighted. Even though it was a nice gesture, I feel like it’s just a pacifier. They’re like, “Let’s give these niggas down there a pacifier so they can stop feeling left out. We’ll make Luke and all these niggas down there look funny,” you know? “Let’s put a plate of fried chicken and some watermelon and let’s just do some nigga-ass shit.” (laughs) Quote, end quote. “Some nigga-ass shit.” Fried chicken and watermelon. “Shit, the faster we get this over with, the better.”
Honoring [Uncle] Luke and James [Prince] and [Master] P and Timbaland and JD and Dungeon Family is a good thing. I don’t wanna fuck their Honors up. They helped lay the foundation. More power to ‘em. I respect what they do and I respect what they’ve done for Hip Hop, but to put us in a category is disrespectful. Why would you categorize us as “Dirty South”? Why can’t you just honor some muthafuckers from down here and leave it like that? You ain’t gotta make us look extra country. We know where we’re from and we know where you’re from. We know where Hip Hop came from, man. We’re cool with that. I’m proud to be from Houston but don’t make a mockery of my accomplishments. We’re not “dirty” down here in the South anyway. This shit down here probably cleaner than the rest of the country, cause we got grandmas down here. Our grandmas don’t play that shit.
I was a part of the Slick Rick and De La Soul and Too $hort and Public Enemy [Hip Hop Honors]. I felt good about being a part of that. I went [to Hip Hop Honors] when they honored Def Jam because I wanted to be a part of that. I felt honored that they would even call me to do it. But this year, I totally disagree with how they’re trying to categorize us. You know how they make us look on TV? Like we live on the front porch with flies and shit flying around us, with our stomachs all big eating watermelon rinds? That ain’t us, man. Don’t fuckin’ make a mockery of us because we come from down here and you have no fuckin’ idea what it looks like. They’re gonna try to put us with some cows and just make us look fucked up, man, like we don’t know what the fuck we doin’ down here. We’re smart, man. Our life is slowed down so we don’t miss nothing. When shit gets moving too fast you miss everything. Shit’s slowed down here so we see it all.
I come from the era when New York and L.A. had the only Hip Hop, and they weren’t fuckin’ with us, at all. If you think I’m lyin’, check the history of Hip Hop. Try to pull up some footage from the 1989/1990 New Music Seminar. That’s what I base my whole fuckin’ life on: the New Music Seminar 1989/1990. They was NOT fuckin’ with us. We sold records all over the fuckin’ country and New York made a mockery of it. They fuckin’ booed the Geto Boys in New York. They sure did.
Back when Luke had Skywalker Records and J had Rap-A-Lot Records, they weren’t tryin’ to do no South shit. “It didn’t come from New York, son, so fuck that.” That was their attitude. Just because a TV was made in Japan, is it a Japanese TV? Or is it just a fucking TV? If a lightbulb was made in China is it a Chinese lightbulb?
It was hard breaking through. It was hard getting respect from the East Coast. We didn’t get no fuckin’ love from nobody. Fab Five Freddy came down here early in our career to see what we were really about, and I respected and appreciated that. But we been having money down here. We been rollin’ fuckin’ Bentleys and Ferraris down here since the 80s. Muthafuckers ain’t just started rockin’ gold and platinum chains. We had that shit in high school. Shit, we just now started running out of money. (laughs) That’s how long we been had money down here.
Everybody throws up a fuckin’ smokescreen to make the picture look how they want it to look, but I know shit stank. I ain’t no goddamn fool. I was there in the beginning. We were fighting the power for real. Our raps were considered negative rap, and we got a lot of fuckin’ flak behind that shit. And we were just telling the truth. We were under immense scrutiny, from politicians to radio stations to the media. Luke got up there talkin’ about “Pop That Pussy” and had naked hoes on the stage; they were going to jail and shit. The Geto Boys were talkin’ this politicially-charged, racist-ass, system-ran, gangsta-ass dope-dealing whoopin’-ass shit, and it wasn’t accepted in New York.
Eventually New York came around and started fuckin’ with us. But for an East Coast-based show to call themselves showing some fuckin’ love by making a Southern watered-down version of what the show is supposed to be or what Hip Hop really is, man, I feel fucked up about that shit. Because we fought harder than a muthafucker. When [Ice] Cube was on Hip Hop Honors, it wasn’t the “Hip Hop West Coast Honors.” Every part of the ghetto is the same mu’fuckin’ story. Hip Hop is one machine, regardless if you come from New York or Bareback, Africa. It’s fuckin’ Hip Hop.
But that’s just [my opinion], and fuck me. I don’t mean nothing. I’m just a nigga who fought harder than a muthafucker to get our records played in New York and on the East Coast period. And now all a nigga needs to do is fart on a record and it gets played. So it’s fine by me. I’m cool with that. I’m not mad about it, I just feel disrespected. Whoever goes [to Hip Hop Honors], it’s fine and dandy by me. But if you wanted to do a Southern-based show you shoulda got a nigga DOWN SOUTH to do it in the South.

Today I'll let him explain his footnote in the music industry. Warrior DJ Capo GiGi Capone help set this interview up as I go one on one with: Mr. Mig.

To the people that don't know you, introduce yourself to the world and where you represent.

My name is Steve Migliore aka Mr. Mig. SInce 1998 I've been producing, remixing, writing, etc. professionally in the music business. I represent the world of music...lol.

Explain everything you do. You are not just a producer, right?

I produce , write songs,sing, remix, engineer, arrange,teach production, etc..pretty much everything.

What does it takes to be a great remixer?

I feel it's important to retain the song's integrity and give it a whole new life so that the record can impact a separate market than what it was originally intended for.

Your first #1 record was LeAnn Rimes' How Do I Live remix. It went 3x PLATINUM. How did it feel to make that accomplishment? And the feeling of every major artist coming to you to make an official remix?

It was a surreal experience..I worked very hard to get a record like that and when it finally popped it was a relief to know I was starting to get somewhere and that people were recognizing me as a professional. It ended up hitting #1 on the dance and singles sales charts in Billboard..I left a copy open on my dining room table for a week to see my name when I walked by..It was a crazy time..very exciting.

I see in your bio you use the Torq software to do your mixxes. (Same here I use Torq for DJin) Explain what Torq can do? If it's better than Serato, try to convince the Serato users. Lol

Honestly..I've done a liitle djing Torq and Xponent..I dont use Serato but I have friends who do and they are blown away when they see what Torq and Xponent can do.

What other equipment do you use?

My setups vary in the different rooms at the studio but I typically use a Mac Pro, Logic, Pro Tools,Ableton and lots of software goodies..I also have a bunch of MPC's and keyboards that I run through a Mackie Digital console.

State your resume: Your remixxes, the artists you work with, etc.

That would be pretty hard to do...it has become a pretty long list but some notable artists include Usher, Ciara, Jason Derulo, Beyonce, Diddy, Britney, and many more..

Your opinion on a remix with the same beat but just more features.

I have done a bunch of mixes where I keep the original production and then just add to the arrangement , change the tempo and fill it out and make it a little more interesting.

Explain your style in music. What sound makes it easy to recognize you?

I really don't a have a completely recognizable style. I'm involved with everything from mainstream to club and R&B projects. One thing I try to keep consistent is a "pop" feel. I aim for my mixes and productions to have mass appeal. I use hooky parts and recognizable chord structures and blend rock with pop and urban.

How can producers/DJs get royalties off a remix?

There was a time when remixers took points on projects. That went away for awhile but recently I've been remixing records for publishing and points when there isn't a budget available. People seem to be willing to go outside of the box lately to make all kinds of deals.

Now you are about to launch AudioMaxx Studios , a brand new state of the art recording facility in Cherry Hill, NJ, just minutes from my home in Philadelphia. Tell me more about this. I seen the pictures and they are phenomenal!

Thanks...Yes AudioMaxx actually launched in April and it has been doing very well. We are a one stop shop and provide every service from songwriting, production to music video production, worldwide music distribution through Who?Mag Distribution and much more. Also, I believe our facility has the areas largest cycle wall/green screen.

What does AudioMaxx provide that sets apart from other studios?

First off,We are like a family Audiomaxx is run by Diana Delgado who was once a VP in corporate America and she handles all of the business.She's very detailed and runs a tight ship. There's nobody who can pull people, projects,and ideas together better than her in my opinion. She's the hub of the studio. Also, Between me and my production partner DJ Mike RIzzo we have over 400 major and indie label credits so when you come to us you're getting years of combined experience. Either actually. I look for exceptional talent. Labels do the preliminary work and then hire people like myself which is nice because it pays the bills but it's out of my hands after my work is done. It's also nice when you discover the artist and are able to guide them and help them reach their goals.

The one thing you think about before you lay the first drum set to a beat:

Not much thought other than making sure what I do is commercially appealing. I might think about some of the current hits on the radio.

What are your future goals?

I would like to see Audiomaxx as a name in the studio business like Hit Factory, Sigma, The Plant, etc..I'm always trying to up my game as a producer, remixer and writer.Ultimately if I'm still working in this business in 20 years that would be awesome.

Breaking News: Ricky Ross files lawsuit vs rapper Rick Ross

I just got this email courtesy of Freewayenterprise.com not too long ago. It's no secret that Freeway Ricky Ross has a problem with the way Rick Ross is portraying himself, especially that he's using his name and partly his persona. Well now it seems Freeway Rick is going to settle this once and for all in the courtroom. Someone's name will have to be changed soon. Check this out:

Since being released from federal prison last year, former Los
Angeles drug kingpin Freeway Ricky D. Ross has been preparing a battle
plan to "go to war" for the rights to his name, specifically calling
out rapper Rick Ross and parties involved in his career.

In a press release issued to us on Monday (May 24), Ross' camp accused rapper Rick Ross, Def Jam and Universal of profiting "off of
his name unlawfully while he was in jail, without his consent."

"It's no secret that the boss at FreewayEnterprise.com is unhappy with how his name has been exploited and misused since he went to
prison in 1995, and in 2006, the above-named parties signed [William L.
Roberts II] (Rick Ross' government name) to a big record deal and then
spent, and made, millions off Ross' name," Freeway Ricky's camp says in
a press release.

Freeway Ricky claims that he had previously "protested the exploitation and misuse of his name from prison" in 2006, by having a
lawyer send letters to Def Jam to cease use, but was ignored. Now
that's he out of prison, he plans to stand up for his rights, by
fighting for the "control of his name in commerce by any means
necessary."

It's unclear, however, if Ross plans to file a lawsuit against the rapper and his record labels, or if his comments are strictly for plans
to run a campaign protesting the use of the name.

In the meantime, Freeway Rick Ross is planning a movie about his life with writer/producer Nick Cassavettes, which is slated to drop
next year. He is also seeking a deal to release a book about his life
as well.

Freeway Ricky Ross was released from prison in May 2009, after serving 20 years for operating a $2 million per day multi-state
drug empire. Although he was originally sentenced to life in prison
after he was busted trying to purcahse over 100 kilos of cocaine from
undercover agents, his sentence was reduced through appeals, after a
series of explosive articles by the late Pulitzer Prize winning
journalist Gary Webb uncovered C.I.A.'s role in importing cocaine into
black communities to fund Sandinistas in El Salvador, as part of the
Iran-Contra scandal.

Rapper Rick Ross emerged on the scene in 2006 with his hit single, "Hustlin'," where he bragged about tales of slinging massive amounts of
cocaine through Miami. When he broke onto the scene, controversy
surfaced over his rap moniker, which many believed he did stole from
Freeway Ricky Ross.

3.You started singing before you were nine, from a musically inclined family. Talk about their musical background and how it passed on to you.

- Well I grew up in church, so need I say more??!! My uncles, cousins, bother, sister and many alike all have some type of musical ability whether its' through an instrument, singing, song writing, all the way down to producing! So music has always been around...there was no way it could have missed me!

4. Describe the sound of Shay Star. What will my readers expect?

- The sound of Shay Star.....Well I hear that I have an old soul and a very powerful voice, so I guess I could say soulful but sassy....Lol....It's very unique! I love it because I do not sound like anyone else! I do not like to limit myself to one genre but I try to keep it R&B....I am definitely open to trying anything though!

5. Talk about your mixtape success going back to 2005. History in the Making did 5000 and you've done 5 mixtapes and been on many more.

-Man the love that I have gotten just from the mixtape grind is crazy! Like you said, I been doing this mixtape thing since 05, and I will NOT stop. I've just been going state to state with a box of cds and either giving them away or selling them...either way I just want the people to listen, and so far they hear me! I have also hosted various mixtapes for various Djs. The response that I have gotten from people has been phenomenal! It is completely over whelming! But I honestly just appreciate the fact that people who do not know me from a can of paint take the time to listen. I mean, Certified Super Star Vol. 3 got over 32,000 listens and downloads on the net in less than a month...I don't even know that many people! So its things like that that keep me trucking!

6. Your opinion on the state of R&B as of today.

- I honestly don't listen to alot of the stuff that is out now. I am so embedded in the past it is crazy! I still listen to Sade' "is it a crime" and The Isleys "footsteps in the dark" ha ha! that's where my head is at! I like that old school, make you feel good music.. So unless it's something like that I don't really care for it.

7. What makes a great collabo? You have several, collabing with Freeway, Chopper, Prophy, Young Money Dre and Lil Flip.

- A good collabo in my opinion is chemistry. No matter male or female, in order to work with someone productively, you have to be feeling the vibe of the other artist...If you have doubts about it, I wouldn't do it because you are not going to put your all into it. Work ethic has to be established and recognized before the idea is even presented. And I feel as though if ya'll wires cross and ya'll can concoct some fire....then by all means, please PROCEED! :)

8. You have opened up for a lot of the top artists in the game like Funk Master Flex, Trey Songs, Cassidy, DJ Kid Capri, Maino, Lloyd, Dougie Fresh and DJ Touchtone. That says a lot. How do you take on shows like this, even knowing some of the audience didn't primarily come to see you?

- Truthfully, I just be thankful for the exposure! And for the people who put on the shows, to even consider me as an opening act or to place me at the same venue with these people is really a blessing. I absolutely love it! And i feel as though we ALL had to start somewhere, so why not start with the best!! Lol, and trust, the people might not have primarily came to see me, but they will know who I am before it's all over!

9. How is music therapeutic to you?

- OMG! Music is my sanctuary! Really, people may think it's weird, oh well!! Call me crazy, say what u feel, but wow, when I hear some music, I mean some really really good music, boi!! That's all I can say! No matter what mood I am in, whether it's happy, sad, excited, at ease, depressed, or whatever, just the sounds of good quality music just fill my heart with some type of permanent peace....Music takes me to a whole other time and place and I wish that I could reside there, but then REALITY sets in! Lol but I love it when the music becomes my reality. You have to listen to the words and just feel the essence and bliss that comes with it...Ahhhhh it is soooooo relaxing!!!

10. Tell me your methods of networking. Even though this is the first (and not the last) time we doing business together, I've been hearing your name ALL OVER my twitter line lol.

- When it comes to networking, I'm just me. Lol I don't know how to be anything else but that. I'm just a genuine person. And I let my hard work and dedication speak for itself. I deal with people with just that, like they are people! I mean some folks get all caught up in the hype of a name, I just meet and greet them with kindness and sincerity, eager to work, but always pleasant. And truthfully, that has been my gift. I use twitter as a way to express my inter most thoughts and emotions, Myspace as a bulletin board or the visual of the events and things I am involved in, facebook to build awareness, youtube as the hard core evidence that yeah.. it really goes down....and word of mouth just to get the peoples attention!! Lol, so we'll see how far these take me!

11. Tell me more about your next project coming up and when will it come out.

- The next project that I have coming out will be a new mixtape series (by me) entitled "Heartz, Starz, & Muzic Notez" The first to come of course will be Vol. 1 Hosted by Dj Whitey....It is finished and just patiently awaiting the proper release date! lol we just dropped "certified super star vol. 3" with Dj DP in February 2010, so I'ma let that rock out a little while longer!

12. You have also tapped into modeling and acting to get in the game in more ways than one. Tell me your success in those avenues.

- Well the modeling thing kinda just came and fell into my lap...As an artist I have to keep current photos on deck, so I'm always at a photo shoot, and well I started to get a little creative and hey, it just kind of went from there! I will be featured on thisis50.com VERY SOON!!! So look out for that!

13. You are a very beautiful woman as I see the pictures. So it's not far from the possibility that your modeling career could take off to high levels. What would you do if there was a time when your modeling is getting better results than your music career?

- I don't chase nothing but a check, so I'm naturally going to run to the money! lol, I got bills and a baby, so momma gotta make sure we eat! I don't limit myself to anything, so I'm down for whatever!

14. What goes through your mind as you write your songs?

- I write everything from experience, if I've felt it, I write it, if I see it, I write it, if I do it, I write it. Its just that simple. I have a hard time telling people or expressing my feelings through mouthed words, but gimme a pen and some paper and I'ma go in! Lol, I really would rather write it than say it...

15. Once on twitter you talked about how money motivates you. How important it is to be an independent woman these days? You have no manager, no team and you still shining...

- Well to me being independent is not even an option. I am a woman first, a mother second, and a star last. So in order for me to be what you all see before you, it takes a strong, hard working, independent woman to possess the strength and the ability to endure all of the crap I have to deal with on a day to day basis. And I strive very hard to be all that I can, never waiting for a handout or looking for sympathy.. I am what I am and I am who He's made me. I was built to last and I will continue to do what's best for me, and stay true to myself.

16. What are the ultimate goals for Shay Star?

- Goals, hmmmmm.......well first and foremost, I have to be a good mother for my son. So anything, and I mean anything that I need to do to ensure that he is good, that is what I HAVE to do, there is no hoping or any dreaming in that, that just is...A must...but as for me personally, I just wanna be comfortable, and peaceful, no debt, no mile high troubles...I just like things to be simple, so as long as things keep sailing smoothly, I will not complain nor become greedy. What God has for me will be for me...So I'm cool with just working hard and pursuing any and everything that comes my way.

17. What is the one quote you live by?

-I'm just happy to be here ya know!!! Where there's doubt, there's failure.......You gotta go hard or go home...and I ain't ready to go just yet!!

What's music without the beat? You need a producer in the studio to make the song. Actually, a solid producer can stay in this industry longer than an artist. So I decided starting today and every Wednesday I'm going to go inside the musically intellectual mind of a solid producer.

The first producer I came across was thanks to DJ Beanz (DMV, the sexy voice that hosted SS6) First person she said was this man. Now I see why. He's a student of the game in front of the classroom, taking notes and using them to create success. He's basically what his name is: Certified.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Lets go in the Boardroom.

1. Introduce yourself to the world homie?

Whats Good DJ Benz??? I go by the name of Certified. I'm a producer/engineer for Fall Back Entertainment. I've been doing music now for 8 years, feels like I'm just getting started…

2. What made you decide to become a producer in this game?

When I first started really to make music, I started out as an engineer. Being in the studio with so many different types of artists with different sounds really inspired me to start composing music myself..when I felt I was ready, I started producing for artists who really needed beats, and liked what they heard.

3. In your bio, you stated you are also a songwriter. Talk about the importance of a producer to have knowledge in songwriting. This is how the right artist matches with the right track, right?

When you compose a beat, you should have an idea of who you're making it for, what type of beat it is (hip-hop,r&b,pop), and where the direction of the song is going to be. Nowadays record labels don't want to hear beats, they want to hear finished songs. Every producer should work together with a song-writer, and be willing to have different artists demo their tracks. You'd be surprised to find out how many industry musicians do not write their own lyrics, it was a shock to me to find out at least. I'm lucky to be surrounded by such talented song-writers. Neazee, my song-writing partner, has an incredible talent. Look out for him..

4. Who influenced you in Hip Hop?

Aw man, I can't list everyone. I will say this though, when I heard Big L's first album, I knew I had to do something in this music industry, that was the start of my obsession with this.

5. What you specifically learn in audio engineering in college? You went to Towson University.

Everything a good musician/audio engineer should know. I was blessed to have such talented teachers. I learned the craft primarily at my first internship. Mike Watert (Studio 8121 Chief Engineer), taught me 90% of what I know today. I used all my connections in school 100%… I advise anyone who wants to become an audio engineer or a producer to not take your opportunities lightly.. Do internships, extra credit..whatever. You should live in the studio. I know I do.

6. BKS & DJ ScotteeLP mentored you. How did they help you in your craft?

ScotteeLP was really the man who got me into making beats. I used to engineer for him back in school, he was sick with Reason, and a beast on the turn tables. We used to go record shopping and just sit in the studio all day and chop up samples. ScotteeLP's drum patterns and styles I still implement into my beats to this day.. I still have a drum kit he gave me from 2006 on my hard drive… I use it all the time. When I met BKS, thats when my production went to that second level. He really inspired me to start learning how to play the keyboard, and to get off sampling. I can't even begin to speak words on how talented of a music producer BKS is. 7. Talk to me about the DMV. This is your home court and you are involved with the sound of DC.

I can't say I'm heavily involved in the sound of DC. I'm from Maryland. DC is an amazing city, lot's of talent there. My sound is unique.. I can't compare it to anything I've heard in DC.

8. Who are your favorite artists out the DMV?

First on the list would have to be, Dealz, Codes, Brams, Blast, Bolds, Skeem…Other artists I'm feeling right now are WhiteFolkz, K-Beta, Midian &, Madom Madon. If you don't know who these artists are, get familiar.

9. What is Wale's perception in the DMV?

He's one of DMV's many talented MCs.

10. Talk about the Game 7 mixtape:

Game 7 was the first major downloadable release from our Fall Back Entertainment. We dropped that mixtape right after we dropped Codes album RUN DMV. A lot of people in the DMV don't really quite know Fall Back Ent yet, it's funny, I know you probably get flooded with e-mails from different artists asking you to play their music and tell them what you think, well one day DJ Beanz decided to give it a listen, and the feedback I got was "WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" lol. That said enough. We're working on a summer re-release of the mixtape.

11. Lately I've seen producers doing instrumental mixtapes. That's giving originals away. Is there any benefits to that?

It depends on what your trying to gain from doing that. I'd rather use 20 original beats for a mixtape than do an instrumental version, but thats just me. Like I said before, record labels don't want to hear beats anymore, they want to hear finished songs.

12. Describe your style, your beats.

I'm versatile. You have to be. I try to make every beat as best as it can be. A lot of producers are lazy, you gotta be on point with your production or you will never get noticed. It's all about the beat in this industry.

13. What you working with in the studio? like the board, drum machine, etc?

At my home studio for composing beats I use Pro Tools 8, Reason 3.0, & plenty of VSTs. When I record artists at the recording studio I normally use a Pro Tools rig, Its what I'm most comfortable with.

14. The one thing that motivates you:

I am motivated by other individuals, I feed off other people's energy. If your not grinding, don't bother me.

1. State your names, gangstas:

2. Where you represent?
Straight out of South PHX, ARIZONA

3. Talk to me about the south side of Phoenix.
Ayyyy well basically it’s da hood out here in AZ, the slums aka the barrio’ its alot of poverty out her fam its Mexicans and black folks who all get along in south PHX, AZ

4. How was it like in the house? Any sibling rivalry?
LOL Never that welcome from a broken family home’ pops was gone mama raised 5 kids on her own’ so we got alote of respect for each other’ also very humble and respectable young men that’s coming from being raised by a single Mexican mother ya digg !!

5. What made you guys form the rap group?
Well TS who is da oldest of the group used to be in a rap crew in the 2000. So they wanted to follow in TS’s footsteps started looping beats and rappin on tapes etc..that was when the HOT BOYS had just came out’ being that they were so young SCZ and YOUNG THUG were very motivated’ So one day after TS comes home from a studio session they tell him “fam we wanna show ya something” So TS is like man I wonder what these bad ass kids done did…lol” well come to find out they were spitting some straight hood bars and had already bought studio equipment mics etc so TS was overwhelmed by his lil bros flows..he then said we got something here’ SCZ has always been the one behind the music” he writes da hooks and even engineers the MOBFAM music most of the time’ he is very hands on with the music. Now YOUNG THUG” is super swag fresh dope boy” he spent all alote of time in da streets with some street bosses and hustlaz’ so he always had some paper’ so he brings that money ‘ swag’ real hood story to the music ya dig. TS is more of the mouth piece/ business man always online pushing records and trying to further the MOBFAM.

6. Talk to me about the importance of Latino presence in hip-hop(Personally 1st thing that comes to my mind is Cypress Hill)
Ya no doubt’ big ups to cypress hill they are pioneers for da Latino hip hop movement’ also big ups to PIT BULL (who we have opend up for 3 times already) and MC MAGIC, ZIG ZAG of the well know group in AZ the NB RIDAZ’ And now we introduce the MOBFAM to the world” we bring that street vibe with a lil Latin twist to it’ kinda like terror squad and FAT JOE” the MOBFAM brings them catchy hooks and a hip hop lifestyle to the urban Latino community” to let there people know that change is good” we here to give yall another input and also a positive look for the community ya dig !

7. What was the setting like after your release of your 1st album, "Street Fame" in 2006. That album put you guys on the map in the Southwest.
Well after 10,000 units sold’ it instantly started a buzz in da city’ we rocked a bunch of car shows and nightclubs through out da city’ then the biggest radio station in AZ power 98.3fm picked there single MAMA RAISED A THUGSTAR to be on “hate it or love it” basically they spin ya record without telling the listeners who is da artist is and let them call in and vote’ wow a massive 85% loved the record” so coming from da hood that was a big deal for the MOBFAM. Then we started sending out are own media kits to labels’ and we got a call back from TVT RECORDS letting us know they got our kit and they liked what they heard and to send them more music” yet again u gotta understand being in the hood and a label calls ya back ya gotta be doin something rite ya diigg’ so we ran with it and took it to the next level” well TVT closed there doors but gave us contacts to a few A&R reps and we are currently on a quest for this soon to come record deal” believe that.

8. What's the Phoenix hip-hop scene like? I know you crossed pathes with Willy Northpole. Do you think Phoenix has what it takes to be on the forefront of Hip hop like Atlanta?
Well first of all big ups to WILLY NORTHPOLE he is from da hood of south PHX, AZ as well we did a XPOZ magazine cover with him and rocked the DUB car show after party with him and Cash Money Records recording artist 2PISTOLS who also showed the MOBFAM alot of love” ARIZONA has a lot of talent’ it wont be long till we are in the spotlight its well deserved as well.

9. Did you guys went through battle rapping? How many people lost to the Mob Fam?
We mainly drop singles and mixtapes and albums” you can take the MOBFAM cd home and battle it all night and be mad at ya self for not putting out music like the fam…lol” with all due respect

10. Your new album "The Takeover" is coming out this summer. What are the expectations? Talk about your single, "We Okay"(I been spinning that record a lot on my mixshows)
Ooweeee the new single WE OK” is super off the chain we have a hit single on our hands rite now my boy Chris Hollywood did the beat “he killed it big ups fam-we moving my dude” it’s a dope beat with a catchy hook in English and Spanish” we giving our people something to ride to and its being shopped around now as we speak” also we got a follow up record for it called TU AMOR” something for da ladies FT:MC MAGIC be checking for that to. Also big ups to JMILLY and HUSTLE N GRIND RADIO and DJ BENZ for spinning the record” and DJ BENZ for that big plug on that night when the track was featured on HUSTLE N GRIND” that spin 10 tracks and have 2 DJ’s judge the records are track WE OK” got a great response that nite he said “not to be disrespectful to any artist that was on that night but that that was the hottest joint of da night” with that being said…here we are fam…thanks bro (No doubt fam)

11. Now this anti-1070 bill against immigration is gaining national coverage. Cops and/or the gov't always finds a way to supress the minority races like us. i want to hear your outtake from each one of you on how can we inform the US about this.
We need to be more aware as a society. Its all bad out here in AZ my peoples been going through that always now they making it legal to racial profile” we will address that very soon in a record” until then all my people keep ya head we gonna be ok”

12. How involved is hip-hop in Mexican culture?
My Mexican people love & support hip hop they trap to…lol.. They buy records they rock jordans and they pop bottles ya digg’ now we gotta give are people something to be proud of and something to get behind and represent we give the the MOBFAM all hood love.

13. Out of you three: Which one is the shyest? The most outgoing? The loudest? Most athletic? and this one...Who gets the most women?
Lol The shyest would have to be SCZ” the loudest is TS” and for who gets the most women’ wow” lol that’s kinda tuff.You would have to see with your own eyes ‘we love da ladies’ as for the most athletic we are all in shape and play hoops every week” TS got a mean post up game’ he played football and basketball in high school”

14. To you guys, what keeps a rap group together nowadays?
