STATE YOUR NAME CANNON: Nia Da Foxx

Photobucket

This artist has a lot of charisma. By her style and her persona you can tell she does it from the soul. That's when it is most personal. Her whole life has be scattered with accomplishments, both as a child and as an adult. She also has gone through tragedies that no one should faced. To bounce back more than ever shows total resilience. I was blown away when I heard her tracks first on Hustle & Grind Radio (shoutout to J Milly). I was even more stunned when I heard her live through my messed-up phone. She still sound phenomenal. With all of that she still is a very sweet, kind woman. But she's probably one of the toughest women I've came across in some time. (She doesn't know this but I pretty much decided she should host Sexual Seduction 7. Let her find out reading this lol )

I've interviewed great R&B artists like K. Michelle and Shay Star. So here's another: Nia da Foxx

1. State your name lady.

Hey....What's good?? It's yours truly, the Sultry One...NiaDaFoxx

2. Where you representing?

I'm from Washington DC

3. You have been bitten by the music bug for as long as you can remember. How important is music in your family?

Awwww..... music is extremely important to my family. It's the core foundation of our unit. My Grandmother and her sisters had a group back in their day. They had the clean vocals, fly gear, hair done and makeup flawless. They would shut it down every performance. They were fierce!!! My father is a pianist, so I grew up sitting beside him on his piano bench singing while he played. I have great memories of my Dad and I singing together.

4. How was it like being a young kid traveling with your choir to perform? Did it beat having less memories as a normal child?

You know what that's a really good question. In the midst of all the traveling I never felt like I was missing out on my childhood. I guess because I was doing what I love, so it never felt like work. And my cousins would look forward to hearing about my experiences, so their excitement made me feel special, and kept me motivated to keep going. But I do have some great memories as a young performer and I wouldn't trade those memories for anything in the world.

5. Tell the readers the accomplishments you had as a child.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! I was apart of a group based out of DC that somehow had the privilege of becoming the poster choir for "The Border Baby Project" backed by the White House Administration. We recorded a couple theme songs for the project and whenever the President had a speaking engagement, we were there right by his side. The political community really fell in love with us. So any event that DC was hosting we were there, singing our little hearts out!!! LOL

We were invited to sing at the lighting of the National Christmas Tree every year (which was one of my favorite events) people from all around the world would come to that particular event.

6. How important is education to you?

Education is extremely important to me. It takes more than just a pretty face and a big voice to make it in this industry. And I had it bad as a child, my mother was an educator. She was actually the principal of my elementary school. I couldn't get away with NOTHING!!!!!!! LOL...but all jokes aside, she taught me the importance of having an education, and knowing what I wanted to do in life.

7. How hard was it to come back to music in your 20s? Were you "rusty" or was it like riding a bicycle again?

LOL..... It was like riding a bike. I fell right back into my place like I had never left. Honestly I stopped performing but I never stopped singing or writing. So, getting back into it was very natural for me.

8. This question is personal and I feel iffy about asking so if you don't want to answer, it's ok. What made you decide to move on after the tragic passing of your son?

Hmmmmmm...... his death knocked me off my feet. Have you ever felt like a certain situation in life caused you to almost loose it??? Well, that's what that situation did to me. So one day I woke up and decided the best thing for me to do was to get away from everybody and focus on me and work on healing myself. So, I packed my bags and drove to Los Angeles, CA from Washington DC. What a liberating feeling to drive across the country....

Photobucket

9. What does music do to you?

Music heals me, makes me laugh, makes me cry, makes me wanna fight, makes me wanna make love. No matter what emotion I'm feeling at any given moment...there's a song out there that can give me what I need.

11. Who do you look up to in R&B?

I adore Mary J Blige for her tenacity and strength. And Anita Baker is my all time favorite, her vocals are clean and rich and she's just the truth....Hands Down!!!! If I could go on tour with either of them I would be in heaven!!! Sheer heaven!!!

12. You have the podium. To you, what is the state of R&B today and what should change?

Honestly, R&B is in a sad state right now. We're loosing our audience. POP is taking over, which is cool but it shouldn't cause R&B to be obsolete. If I want to hear some real R&B I have to listen to some old school jams, and that's sad.

13. Who did you featured with in the past?

LOL..... I guess you're speaking of Pharrell. I have a song called TKO and it has a feature from your boy. It's a hott record, if I must say so myself.

14. Tell me about your latest project thats about to hit stores.

I actually have 2 projects that I'm excited about right now. I have a project dropping next month called "The 4Bidden Mixtape" , it's like the appetizer before the main course. Now my main course..that's my baby right there!!! I'm talking bout my actual album, that will hit the stores at the end of the year. It's untitled at the moment, but I'm really pumped about the direction that the album is going. I call my music "Feel good music with a Sexy, Sassy Kick"!!! I think you're going to love it!!!

15. What does Nia like to do in her spare time?

Mannnnnn...... I'm such a home body. I love sipping on a good glass of wine and chillin' in my house while watching a good movie. My girls tease me cause I never want to go out. But, if I were to go kick it with my folks, I would go bowling and shoot some pool ( I suck at pool but I talk big trash..so that keeps my opponent nervous!!!) LOL

Photobucket

16. Single or taken? What qualities in a man that will get you attracted?

I knew that question was coming soon... LOL!! Let's just say, when I'm dating a man I appreciate someone with the greatest since of humor. I also love it when he has his own sense of style, if his swag game is on 1000!!! Good Lawd... I'm all in there!! LOL!!! And last but not least, he has to have ambition, he must be driven and have an intense passion for growth and success!!!!

17. What's the ultimate goal for Nia?

WOW!!!! There's so much that I want to do. But I guess my ultimate goal would be to re-introduce R&B to the new generation.

18. One thing you would like to change about society.

That list is long.... but if I would change one thing ... I guess it would be, the pressure that society puts on women to be perfect. I watch my lil 10 year old cousin go out of her way to be the baddest 10 year old in her school. She wants to look like all the model chicks, video vixens and I'm like you're only 10. Calm down....what are you doing?????

So, I wish society would just let us be free to be who we are. Big, Small, Curvy, Slim...whatever God blessed us with we need to love it to the fullest!!!!

STATE YOUR NAME CANNON: Shay Star

Photobucket

If you have been paying attention to who is on the come-up in the R&B scene, you should know who this person is. Soulful, yet sassy, this lady from the Delaware Valley knows how to amp up every note that she sings. If you are hiding any feelings bottled in your chest, she can definitely bring it out. Her hustle also deserves a high grade. Trey Songz was not the only one pushing R&B mixtapes to get his shine on. Even if she had to pass them out, give them away, or ask u to pay, her voice would still stay in your stereo!! That drive and determination landed her chances to open up for yes, Trey Songz as well as Cassidy, DJ Kid Capri, Maino, Lloyd, Dougie Fresh and DJ Touchtone. She also looks very lovely as she will be featured in "Thick Thursdays" as a model on thisis50.com . All around hustla for sure. 302 this is for you. Meet: *Shay Star*

1. State your name Cannon

- I am Shay Star....the next R&B Diva!!! :) aka "Dat R&B Chick"

2. Where you represent?

- 1st State Representing all day!!! 302 STAND UP!!!!! >Delaware to all the people lost in the sauce!! :)

3.You started singing before you were nine, from a musically inclined family. Talk about their musical background and how it passed on to you.

- Well I grew up in church, so need I say more??!! My uncles, cousins, bother, sister and many alike all have some type of musical ability whether its' through an instrument, singing, song writing, all the way down to producing! So music has always been around...there was no way it could have missed me!

4. Describe the sound of Shay Star. What will my readers expect?

- The sound of Shay Star.....Well I hear that I have an old soul and a very powerful voice, so I guess I could say soulful but sassy....Lol....It's very unique! I love it because I do not sound like anyone else! I do not like to limit myself to one genre but I try to keep it R&B....I am definitely open to trying anything though!

5. Talk about your mixtape success going back to 2005. History in the Making did 5000 and you've done 5 mixtapes and been on many more.

-Man the love that I have gotten just from the mixtape grind is crazy! Like you said, I been doing this mixtape thing since 05, and I will NOT stop. I've just been going state to state with a box of cds and either giving them away or selling them...either way I just want the people to listen, and so far they hear me! I have also hosted various mixtapes for various Djs. The response that I have gotten from people has been phenomenal! It is completely over whelming! But I honestly just appreciate the fact that people who do not know me from a can of paint take the time to listen. I mean, Certified Super Star Vol. 3 got over 32,000 listens and downloads on the net in less than a month...I don't even know that many people! So its things like that that keep me trucking!

6. Your opinion on the state of R&B as of today.

- I honestly don't listen to alot of the stuff that is out now. I am so embedded in the past it is crazy! I still listen to Sade' "is it a crime" and The Isleys "footsteps in the dark" ha ha! that's where my head is at! I like that old school, make you feel good music.. So unless it's something like that I don't really care for it.

7. What makes a great collabo? You have several, collabing with Freeway, Chopper, Prophy, Young Money Dre and Lil Flip.

- A good collabo in my opinion is chemistry. No matter male or female, in order to work with someone productively, you have to be feeling the vibe of the other artist...If you have doubts about it, I wouldn't do it because you are not going to put your all into it. Work ethic has to be established and recognized before the idea is even presented. And I feel as though if ya'll wires cross and ya'll can concoct some fire....then by all means, please PROCEED! :)

8. You have opened up for a lot of the top artists in the game like Funk Master Flex, Trey Songs, Cassidy, DJ Kid Capri, Maino, Lloyd, Dougie Fresh and DJ Touchtone. That says a lot. How do you take on shows like this, even knowing some of the audience didn't primarily come to see you?

- Truthfully, I just be thankful for the exposure! And for the people who put on the shows, to even consider me as an opening act or to place me at the same venue with these people is really a blessing. I absolutely love it! And i feel as though we ALL had to start somewhere, so why not start with the best!! Lol, and trust, the people might not have primarily came to see me, but they will know who I am before it's all over!

Photobucket

9. How is music therapeutic to you?

- OMG! Music is my sanctuary! Really, people may think it's weird, oh well!! Call me crazy, say what u feel, but wow, when I hear some music, I mean some really really good music, boi!! That's all I can say! No matter what mood I am in, whether it's happy, sad, excited, at ease, depressed, or whatever, just the sounds of good quality music just fill my heart with some type of permanent peace....Music takes me to a whole other time and place and I wish that I could reside there, but then REALITY sets in! Lol but I love it when the music becomes my reality. You have to listen to the words and just feel the essence and bliss that comes with it...Ahhhhh it is soooooo relaxing!!!

10. Tell me your methods of networking. Even though this is the first (and not the last) time we doing business together, I've been hearing your name ALL OVER my twitter line lol.

- When it comes to networking, I'm just me. Lol I don't know how to be anything else but that. I'm just a genuine person. And I let my hard work and dedication speak for itself. I deal with people with just that, like they are people! I mean some folks get all caught up in the hype of a name, I just meet and greet them with kindness and sincerity, eager to work, but always pleasant. And truthfully, that has been my gift. I use twitter as a way to express my inter most thoughts and emotions, Myspace as a bulletin board or the visual of the events and things I am involved in, facebook to build awareness, youtube as the hard core evidence that yeah.. it really goes down....and word of mouth just to get the peoples attention!! Lol, so we'll see how far these take me!

11. Tell me more about your next project coming up and when will it come out.

- The next project that I have coming out will be a new mixtape series (by me) entitled "Heartz, Starz, & Muzic Notez" The first to come of course will be Vol. 1 Hosted by Dj Whitey....It is finished and just patiently awaiting the proper release date! lol we just dropped "certified super star vol. 3" with Dj DP in February 2010, so I'ma let that rock out a little while longer!

12. You have also tapped into modeling and acting to get in the game in more ways than one. Tell me your success in those avenues.

- Well the modeling thing kinda just came and fell into my lap...As an artist I have to keep current photos on deck, so I'm always at a photo shoot, and well I started to get a little creative and hey, it just kind of went from there! I will be featured on thisis50.com VERY SOON!!! So look out for that!

13. You are a very beautiful woman as I see the pictures. So it's not far from the possibility that your modeling career could take off to high levels. What would you do if there was a time when your modeling is getting better results than your music career?

- I don't chase nothing but a check, so I'm naturally going to run to the money! lol, I got bills and a baby, so momma gotta make sure we eat! I don't limit myself to anything, so I'm down for whatever!

Photobucket

14. What goes through your mind as you write your songs?

- I write everything from experience, if I've felt it, I write it, if I see it, I write it, if I do it, I write it. Its just that simple. I have a hard time telling people or expressing my feelings through mouthed words, but gimme a pen and some paper and I'ma go in! Lol, I really would rather write it than say it...

15. Once on twitter you talked about how money motivates you. How important it is to be an independent woman these days? You have no manager, no team and you still shining...

- Well to me being independent is not even an option. I am a woman first, a mother second, and a star last. So in order for me to be what you all see before you, it takes a strong, hard working, independent woman to possess the strength and the ability to endure all of the crap I have to deal with on a day to day basis. And I strive very hard to be all that I can, never waiting for a handout or looking for sympathy.. I am what I am and I am who He's made me. I was built to last and I will continue to do what's best for me, and stay true to myself.

16. What are the ultimate goals for Shay Star?

- Goals, hmmmmm.......well first and foremost, I have to be a good mother for my son. So anything, and I mean anything that I need to do to ensure that he is good, that is what I HAVE to do, there is no hoping or any dreaming in that, that just is...A must...but as for me personally, I just wanna be comfortable, and peaceful, no debt, no mile high troubles...I just like things to be simple, so as long as things keep sailing smoothly, I will not complain nor become greedy. What God has for me will be for me...So I'm cool with just working hard and pursuing any and everything that comes my way.

17. What is the one quote you live by?

-I'm just happy to be here ya know!!! Where there's doubt, there's failure.......You gotta go hard or go home...and I ain't ready to go just yet!!

STATE YOUR NAME CANNON: MOB FAM

Photobucket

You got to admit. There aren't a lot of rappers in hip-hop with Latino descent. But best believe the ones out there are legends or superstars: First you HAVE to say Big Pun. Then Fat Joe. The almighty Cypress Hill. And you can't be a DJ in a party and NOT rock Pitbull. I even got to shout out Lumidee for this one (Hopefully she will be interviewed very soon as she makes her comeback)
After this interview you got to add these three brothers right here. Coming from the same hood as Willy Northpole in Phoenix, AZ, they been going through the game for a while. Their mission? Be the fresh faces in Latino hip-hop and have the world hooked and blazing like their scorching weather. After this interview, It should be mission accomplished:
World: meet MOB FAM

1. State your names, gangstas:
AYYYYY was up fam’ we got SCZ, YOUNG THUG and TS

2. Where you represent?
Straight out of South PHX, ARIZONA

3. Talk to me about the south side of Phoenix.
Ayyyy well basically it’s da hood out here in AZ, the slums aka the barrio’ its alot of poverty out her fam its Mexicans and black folks who all get along in south PHX, AZ

4. How was it like in the house? Any sibling rivalry?
LOL Never that welcome from a broken family home’ pops was gone mama raised 5 kids on her own’ so we got alote of respect for each other’ also very humble and respectable young men that’s coming from being raised by a single Mexican mother ya digg !!

5. What made you guys form the rap group?
Well TS who is da oldest of the group used to be in a rap crew in the 2000. So they wanted to follow in TS’s footsteps started looping beats and rappin on tapes etc..that was when the HOT BOYS had just came out’ being that they were so young SCZ and YOUNG THUG were very motivated’ So one day after TS comes home from a studio session they tell him “fam we wanna show ya something” So TS is like man I wonder what these bad ass kids done did…lol” well come to find out they were spitting some straight hood bars and had already bought studio equipment mics etc so TS was overwhelmed by his lil bros flows..he then said we got something here’ SCZ has always been the one behind the music” he writes da hooks and even engineers the MOBFAM music most of the time’ he is very hands on with the music. Now YOUNG THUG” is super swag fresh dope boy” he spent all alote of time in da streets with some street bosses and hustlaz’ so he always had some paper’ so he brings that money ‘ swag’ real hood story to the music ya dig. TS is more of the mouth piece/ business man always online pushing records and trying to further the MOBFAM.

6. Talk to me about the importance of Latino presence in hip-hop(Personally 1st thing that comes to my mind is Cypress Hill)
Ya no doubt’ big ups to cypress hill they are pioneers for da Latino hip hop movement’ also big ups to PIT BULL (who we have opend up for 3 times already) and MC MAGIC, ZIG ZAG of the well know group in AZ the NB RIDAZ’ And now we introduce the MOBFAM to the world” we bring that street vibe with a lil Latin twist to it’ kinda like terror squad and FAT JOE” the MOBFAM brings them catchy hooks and a hip hop lifestyle to the urban Latino community” to let there people know that change is good” we here to give yall another input and also a positive look for the community ya dig !

7. What was the setting like after your release of your 1st album, "Street Fame" in 2006. That album put you guys on the map in the Southwest.
Well after 10,000 units sold’ it instantly started a buzz in da city’ we rocked a bunch of car shows and nightclubs through out da city’ then the biggest radio station in AZ power 98.3fm picked there single MAMA RAISED A THUGSTAR to be on “hate it or love it” basically they spin ya record without telling the listeners who is da artist is and let them call in and vote’ wow a massive 85% loved the record” so coming from da hood that was a big deal for the MOBFAM. Then we started sending out are own media kits to labels’ and we got a call back from TVT RECORDS letting us know they got our kit and they liked what they heard and to send them more music” yet again u gotta understand being in the hood and a label calls ya back ya gotta be doin something rite ya diigg’ so we ran with it and took it to the next level” well TVT closed there doors but gave us contacts to a few A&R reps and we are currently on a quest for this soon to come record deal” believe that.

8. What's the Phoenix hip-hop scene like? I know you crossed pathes with Willy Northpole. Do you think Phoenix has what it takes to be on the forefront of Hip hop like Atlanta?
Well first of all big ups to WILLY NORTHPOLE he is from da hood of south PHX, AZ as well we did a XPOZ magazine cover with him and rocked the DUB car show after party with him and Cash Money Records recording artist 2PISTOLS who also showed the MOBFAM alot of love” ARIZONA has a lot of talent’ it wont be long till we are in the spotlight its well deserved as well.

9. Did you guys went through battle rapping? How many people lost to the Mob Fam?
We mainly drop singles and mixtapes and albums” you can take the MOBFAM cd home and battle it all night and be mad at ya self for not putting out music like the fam…lol” with all due respect

Photobucket

10. Your new album "The Takeover" is coming out this summer. What are the expectations? Talk about your single, "We Okay"(I been spinning that record a lot on my mixshows)
Ooweeee the new single WE OK” is super off the chain we have a hit single on our hands rite now my boy Chris Hollywood did the beat “he killed it big ups fam-we moving my dude” it’s a dope beat with a catchy hook in English and Spanish” we giving our people something to ride to and its being shopped around now as we speak” also we got a follow up record for it called TU AMOR” something for da ladies FT:MC MAGIC be checking for that to. Also big ups to JMILLY and HUSTLE N GRIND RADIO and DJ BENZ for spinning the record” and DJ BENZ for that big plug on that night when the track was featured on HUSTLE N GRIND” that spin 10 tracks and have 2 DJ’s judge the records are track WE OK” got a great response that nite he said “not to be disrespectful to any artist that was on that night but that that was the hottest joint of da night” with that being said…here we are fam…thanks bro (No doubt fam)

11. Now this anti-1070 bill against immigration is gaining national coverage. Cops and/or the gov't always finds a way to supress the minority races like us. i want to hear your outtake from each one of you on how can we inform the US about this.
We need to be more aware as a society. Its all bad out here in AZ my peoples been going through that always now they making it legal to racial profile” we will address that very soon in a record” until then all my people keep ya head we gonna be ok”

12. How involved is hip-hop in Mexican culture?
My Mexican people love & support hip hop they trap to…lol.. They buy records they rock jordans and they pop bottles ya digg’ now we gotta give are people something to be proud of and something to get behind and represent we give the the MOBFAM all hood love.

13. Out of you three: Which one is the shyest? The most outgoing? The loudest? Most athletic? and this one...Who gets the most women?
Lol The shyest would have to be SCZ” the loudest is TS” and for who gets the most women’ wow” lol that’s kinda tuff. You would have to see with your own eyes ‘we love da ladies’ as for the most athletic we are all in shape and play hoops every week” TS got a mean post up game’ he played football and basketball in high school”

14. To you guys, what keeps a rap group together nowadays?
Loyalty and you gotta do numbers or ya will off “being that we brothers we can criticize each other with out anybody being offended” even if we didn’t make in the game we still got that love for each other“ we will adapt and overcome” but it seems like there’s a place in this hip hop world for MOBFAM ya digg!

15. What is the ultimate goal for you three? the Mob Fam?
Well first to make great music and reach fans across the world” but also to reach our latino crowd and give them a fresh breath of air with this new movement’ they will have something to rep and something to be proud of LATINOS STAND UP”

16. Contact info for everyone to reach you?
Contact our management “Money Power Respect Entertainment”; reach out to Cahleb at 480.570.7370

17. Any shoutouts?
Big ups to the whole AZ hip hop community everybody in the industry that’s doing there thing and always to the man upstairs God bless us all” and thanks for your time and ya ears enjoy the new single “WE OKAY

STATE YOUR NAME CANNON: TOMMY STARS

Photobucket

Ok, on this intro, i'm going to be brutally honest(when have I not). I knew about this cannon for a few years, because we have the same group of friends. The very first time I heard his music, I wasn't with it because it sounded different. He was making 2010 music in 2007. I guess my 19-yr-old self back then wasn't ready. Fast forward to today and both of us has made major moves in this game to become respected in Philly as well as this industry. So it only makes sense for us to collide and give you real ish for you all to here. I'm real proud to know him and confident to say he is the next big thing in music. How couldn't he if he collabed with the very top music has to offer? Ya mean? So on the eve of the scheduled release of his anticipated mixtape, Purple Rain, i give you Rainman....Captain Hooks. Tommy Stars:

1. State Your Name Cannon:
They call me Tommy Tommy Tommy Tommy Stars!! Aka Captain Hooks lol Tommy Stars on deck!

2. Where you represent:
I represent every hood where people are struggling and tryna do something better for themselves, but I was born and raised in Philly(Logan)

3. What made you start rapping? When did it all start?
I have always been into music since I can remember. I have been in bands since 1st grade but I started rapping in about the 7th grade.

4. Talk about the Commission:
The Commision is my movement. It consist of Most Famous my right hand with the song and hook writing female emcees Tiani Victoria and Chyna Cavalli, singer/songwriter Risa, my business partner Chris aka dj Circuit Breaker, Dj Young Legend, A.Boogie and Dj Benz(me). The Commision is the future of the underground hiphop scence. We are about to change the way the underground is moving. We are the future.

5. How did you first meet up with D-Block and talk about how you got on the album, No Security.
I met up with D-Block through my former management's cousin. He lived in the same building as Bully who's with D-Block and we started recording up at Vinny Idols studio too. Bully recorded in there too so I laid this track called I look mean and Bully was like "yo can I get on that"..it was sorta like history from there. I started recording at the main D-Block studio after that and from doing hooks for Bully, Styles and Sheek over heard them. It was a rap after that. I laid all the hooks for No Security in 30 minutes flat. Styles was super impressed at how fast I worked and I've been dealing with them ever since.

6. One thing I've noticed is that your networking game is on point. Tell everyone how important it is to do that, and how to network THE RIGHT way.
Networking is the key to success. Being successful in the music business or any business is not about talent or skills, it's about who you know and that's a fact. A closed mouth does not get fed. You don't always have to have money to make things happen. Use your talent to your advantage. If you have crazy bars offer ghost writing in exchange for something if you produce offer beats for something. I write hooks that's my currency.

7. Purple Rain comes out this week. Streets only. When will it be out online?
Purple Rain will be available mid May hopefully. Our part is complete its all up to the processing that iTunes has to do.

8. Tell me more about your next mixtape. I should say album because you really went in.
You said it right. It's far from a mixtape. It's 365 days of grind studio time thought and sweat. It is the perfect summer CD aka sex on beat lol. 17 tracks I think and two hidden for the street release and a bonus for the online buyers. It's nothing like these Philly rappers. The total opposite. I've created my own lane of music.

9. On Purple Rain, You collabed with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Trey Songz. All original material. Today they are the top three artists in the game. Tell me what went on in the studio as you create bangers with these superstars.
I was never in the studio with them. The tracks were flown over and that's how they where created. That's a thing that seems to be the past this day and age, meeting artists in the studio at the same time but it's a blessing to have these records with these major artists even if it was done in the 2010 manner lol.

Photobucket

10. What should take place in order for Tommy Stars to be the next big artist out?
People have to take time to listen, that's all plain and simple just listen to the music. You can't deny good music. I am already the next big thing. I just need that co-sign from the streets and it will come as soon as the streets turn their ears away from the bullshit and tune in to quality talent and great music once that happens you a see the outcome for yourself.

11. What do you feel about the state of Hip Hop in Philadelphia? Your opinions on other Philly stars like Meek Mill, Tone Trump, etc.
They are doing their thing. They do what they do. I do what I do. We all have different lanes. I don't really focus on other artists cause they not focused on me lol at least I don't think they are. But the state of hip-hop in Philly right now to me is one sided. The radio stations play the same artist all day everyday but we all know what the almighty dollar can do.

12. Another great collab you told me about: You and Solange Knowles. How was that like and can we hear that record anytime soon?
Same situation with her was the same with the other big artists. The tracks were flown over and they were recorded at separate studios. The track has been out for about 2 years now. You can google it. It's called little love.

13. You are basically "Captain Hooks". What is the recipe of cooking up a perfect collaboration?
Its putting two good musicians together whose goal is to make good music, not just do it cause two artist are buzzing and they have a beat from a known producer. It's me hearing a beat writing the hook then hearing the perfect artist besides myself on the track or if I think it needs a second artist on it.

14. Name one artist that you would love to collab with but you haven't already.
Kanye West I would love that

15. What is the ideal type of woman you like? Do you believe she still exist?
Yes I do believe she does exist because she just has to be honest, untainted by the world. I thought I had the perfect female twice and time proved me wrong twice but God works in mysterious ways so maybe even though I wanted those females it wasn't in Gods plan.

16. Describe to the readers what a Philly girl is like. Lol
Lol imma pass on this cause my opinion will become a major event lol but some of the traits are driven, crazy, educated, ghetto, sexy, talented I could go on I love my Philly females they are a diverse bunch :)

17. Craziest story involving a groupie lol.
Lol I don't have groupies lol I have loyal supporters who sometimes are turned on sexually by me lol but I don't have any wild stories :)

18. Lebron or Kobe?
Kobe all day he's an amazing player. He's this generation's Jordan and I've seen Jordan in action and its tough to top Jordan but Kobe's gonna do it. I see that he's still very young still learning and he's the best in the game period right now.

19. What's the next steps for Tommy Stars?
Grind city push Purple Rain like its a album and I'm working on my next CD entitled Graffiti Bridge and wait to see what God's next move for me is.

20. Contact info in case anyone wants to collab with you.
You can get at me on twitter @tommystars I run my own page or myspace.com/tommystarsonline I'm on twitter everyday and Facebook but I don't accept everyone on the book.
21. Any Shoutouts?
Dj BigMike the reason why I'm here in the position I'm in, Everyone up d-block my movement Most famous Chris Tiani Chyna Boogie and everyone that supports Tommy Stars

Every artist tries to be different in this genre. Some do succeed. And there's a few who goes out to left field. I noticed this homie on myspace first, and his tracks were of a different sound. (You can tell off the back this dude from VA). He made himself his own musical world and warps anyone near orbit. Then you trapped in a spell with hypnotic beats and storytelling lyrics. No, his mixtape Diamond, Dunks and Backpacks did not make my top 10 list of 2009...It made 11. Only cause he needs to evolve into supersayian. Hailing out of VA, B{Dot}Jay

STATE YOUR NAME CANNON: QUEEN YONASDA

Photobucket

I have the privilege of reminding the fans and introducing the newcomers to this special artist. I met her around a devastating time in my life. I was just leaving the point of sadness about the earthquake in Haiti and going towards determination to help. The question was.....how? This phenomenal woman answered that question by founding Hip Hop 4 Haiti, which I joined shortly after. She's all about helping the underdog and educating the youth, and looking fly doing it. She's probably not an artist. She's probably an activist but just took the artist route. So pay attention to this gangsta; Minister Louis Farrakhan's stepdaughter who collabed with Wu-Tang. A Queen. Queen Yonasda:

1. State your name cannon:
YoNasDa (pronounced Yo-Naja-Ha)

2. Tell the people about your upbringing. I read your bio and it was inspiring to say the least.
Well thank you I am a proud Native American and Black woman I was born in Washington DC during the Longest Walk a protest from the American Indian Movement. My mother was an activist and motivational speaker and my father was in and out of prison all my life. I lived everywhere, so I developed a national and bigger way of thinking.

3. Tell me what Yonasda mean.
It was given to me by a Navajo Medicine Man it means Precious Jewel in Dine which is the language of the Navajo people. I am Oglala Lakota, my mother and family is from Pine Ridge, South Dakota

4. How did you first meet Minister Louis Farrakhan and what important role does he play in your life?
He and my mother were great friends before I was born, my mother use to work for Muhammad Ali, when my mother went to prison, the Hon.Min.Louis Farrakhan and his family adopted my brother and I, he is like a father figure in my life.

5. What got you to start rapping?
I looked at Hip Hop as an escape from the struggles I was going through, I started off engulfing myself in all aspects of hip hop from breakin, deejaying, graffiti and rhyming, I started doing spoken word and just rap with some of my high school crews, but I took it professionally when I met Ked from the Dungeon Family and he told me I should really do it forreal, he said that I gotta story to tell and a nice voice I should really go in and since then I went in =)

6. How did you link up with Raekwon and how was it when you went on tour with him out of your own pocket?
Well I met Cappadonna in 2004 and I woud be his hype-girl at his shows and pay my dues, recording songs with him, grinding out with Cappa. Well, being around Cappadonna I met the rest of the Clan, plus I was living in Staten Island so I met the Clan and affialiates, etc. So, I met management for the Clan members and they saw my hustle, heard my music and my first show I booked was at BB Kings in New York City with Raekwon and Cappadonna, it was funny cuz I rocked it and Cappa was shocked I booked that show. So from there I paid my dues on the Method Man & Redman tours, then the Footprints of Hip Hop Tour, the 8 Diagrams Tour with Wu Tang Clan and I would do spot dates or region dates. When I was about to do a few dates with Ghostface I got a call from Icewater INC and they gave me the go ahead that I can do the whole Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 Tour. I was estatic cuz bein a female rapper is hard and it was my opportunity to go to city to city and really show everyone that yes the female rapper is not dead. Yes, I recieved alot of naysayers like "Who is she? She doesn't deserve it, she isn't signed, who's vouching for her etc etc" But I put my best foot first and smashed every show. The love I recieved was overwhelming, yeah it was difficult at times but I stepped out on faith and went to over 25 cities with $2500 and I thank Raekwon and the whole IceWater Inc team and Capone for believing in me and showing me love and respect on that whole tour.

7. Talk about your album, "God, Love, and Music". How you linked up with legends like Cappadonna and Keith Murray?
I'm a very electic person, I love and experienced so much in life there isn't nothing that anyone can say that I cannot relate to, yeah it was hard but from my life experiences is what has me make music people from all various backgrounds can relate to and God.Love & Music is the 3 elements of the universal language of man. It has rock, soul, concious, salsa, reggae all on this album. I met Keith Murray surprisingly through myspace, he admired my music and of course I always loved his music and he is truly an emcee and performer. So after hours to months to years of building over the phone, he flew out here and we begin recording something raw and different but it didn't transpire to what we wanted to he did a guest appearance on a song I already had. But I pray there will be a Keith Murray and Queen YoNasDa collab very soon. In regards to Cappadonna and myself, well that's a book..... but I could say that we have songs for days together.. some on this album and some that either he or I would release in the near future. Thats over 5 years knowing eachother so we got stories, memories and music to last a lifetime.

8. Talk to me about your single "So Special" produced by NO ID.
Oh my God!!! I am soooo excited about this song. Because when No ID met me, he told me he wanted to work with me, and really produce me. After a year of talking he FINALLY gave me a beat and told me to write to it, tell my story but still make people dance, he gave me advice on what I need to do as an artist. Now, I admire No ID because he has wrked with the best of the best Common,Jay Z, Nas, Kanye West and the list goes on and on, and when I wrote So Special and emailed it back to him he said he loved it. Its very testimonial for me, every line I wrote is exaclty what I have been going through but at the end of the day through it all I am blessed!! And you are blessed as well!! I am shooting the video in 2 weeks and I believe people are gonna be surprised on how I flip it, its gonna be on some movie, Michael Jackson type of vibe.

9. When is "God, Love and Music" coming out?
Its out in stores now you can get it at Best Buy, on all digital stores I-Tunes, Rhapsody,Amazon and retail internationally. So please cop it today!

10. Are you signed under anybody or 100% independent?
I'm 100% independent

11. Besides Wu-Tang, who would you want to collab with?
I would love to collab with Rhymefest, Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Mary J, Santogold, Eve, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef, The Neptunes, Jay Electronica, Jill Scott, Rakim, Nas, Eminem, Ludacris, Diddy, Maroon 5, Eric Sermon, Denaun Porter, 9th Wonder, Keyshia Cole, Monica, E.Badu, Stevie Wonder, Bono, Public Enemy, Melonie Fiona , Black Eyed Peas... I seriously could go on and on I just admire so many people old school, new school, I don't care if you got the number 1 song out, if its not raw talent I don't wanna work with you. I love realness and rawness.

12. To all that doesn't know, you are the brainchild that started the Hip Hop 4 Haiti movement, which I am proud that I'm part of. Tell everyone how did you start it and the process of this growing from you to 35+ cities:
DJ Benz it was a pleasure that you reached out to make this happen. When I saw it all over the news I just couldn't text to send money when I am an activist and rapper and I know the influence hip hop has on making a difference. So I used all social networking sites and made Jan.30th a National Day of Obeservance for Hip Hop 4 Haiti. It was amazing that the Hip Hop Caucus and Allhiphop.com and other national media all helped us get the word out. We didn't have a huge budget, it was all people like you and I that said we are gonna put together events on this day and stream it live on ustream. It was sooo beautiful on that day. And we made sure that everyone in Haiti got all our money and our donations, we went through trusted Haitain American organizations that have history in Haitian Relief before the earthquake and tsunami which I am more proud of especially when so many people donated to other organizations and no one still havent gotten anything.

13. What's next for Hip Hop for Haiti and the Caucus? I'm still very much involved and will not stop, period. And I have my people that want join.
After Jan.30th we urged everyone to continue to stay informed with the Hip Hop Caucus Hip Hop Help Haiti, because they are an organization and Hip Hop 4 Haiti was a movement. On local levels many of the organizers met soo many people and continue to do things in their community. In Phoenix, the Haitian Church opened a Haitian Relief Center that goes directly to their familiies in Haiti. Next year I wanna have another Hip Hop 4 Haiti on Jan.30 so we can continue keeping people aware and the progress of Haiti.

14. You know how commercial Hip Hop is doing: Songs that just have a gimmick or a catchy phrase. How important is it to be intellectual and to teach lessons in our artform?
Its very important! A rapper's responsiablity whether they like it or not is to be a role model, children today are more being raised by media than their parents. I mean they use hip hop to teach kids now, so we have a huge resposiablity. I try not to be preachy cuz I don't want my songs to fall on a deaf ear, but I do tell my story and try to uplift at the same time.

15. Remember the conversation we had way back about your family in Wyoming? Tell me more about it. How important is it for everyone to know about poverty in our own country?
Huh, Wyoming? Hahaha South Dakota, Pine Ridge... it is the poorest community in the United States, 89 pecent of the people are unemployed, I have family living in makeshift homes, its really bad there I will be filing this summer when I go out there so people can see what I am talking about. And so hopefully people can help out my tribe.

16. As of now you reside in Phoenix, same city as my homegirl J Milly. Tell me about the AZ hip hop scene:
I am back and forth from the east coast and Arizona. Arizona is my hometown though, I grew up there, we had to develop our own hip hop scene, alot of greats passed through throughout the years DJ Z-tripp, Ice Cube, Adina Howard, CeCe Peniston, Kool G Rap, now its like a melting pot so many people are not from here and taking over the hip hop scene and saying they representing Arizona, I mean I heard the sayin "its not where you from its where you at" but see the probelm with that is Arizona hasn't developed a "sound" for Arizona, so people that go outside of here and say they from Arizona but really from other places they sound like the other places and not Arizona. When I was living in New York, they would ask me where I was from? Or when I go to Cali they would ask me where I was from even in Chicago they would ask me where I was from? So I know I don't sound like those other places, I'm not saying I have a sound for Arizona, but I do know all the real Arizona rappers need to come together and develop a sound for Arizona. I love Arizona, its peaceful to me, I went through everything with Arizona, the marching for the King Holiday, the harrassment from cops on Mill Ave, the Electric Ballroom, TMC days, the days of battling at Metro Center Mall, but we need to make a sound so Hip Hop can respect whats coming out of here.

17. One thing I picked up from your bio: Your mother participated in a journey from San Francisco Bay to Washington D.C and you were born there. I want to clarifiy: She was pregnant with you during the journey?? And did she travel by foot? Tell me more about the journey. I now know where you get your strength from.
No she did all the public relations and she traveled a city before the marchers and yes she was pregnant with me, so I came out fighting for freedom, justice and equality.

Photobucket

18. "I'm not here to beat people in the head with a sermon, I'm here to tell the truth." A strong message to tell people. But what do you do when people don't listen? how difficult can it get for your music to fall on deaf ears?
I just keep going until someone listens, if I can have at least one person listen then by the grace of God, they will turn my postive words into action that may change a nation... So I just keep telling the truth! The truth always gets heard whether in my lifetime or not.

19. What's next for the Queen?
I am releasing a mixtape called "All Hail the Queen" and it will be released on cellphone applications with other exclusive stuff that will be coming in June. I am heading back on the road hopefully by May and for the whole summer. I am basically just recording and collabing with alot of artists. I am really excited about whats transpiring and this will not be the last you hear from me!

20. What's your contact info so people can work with you?
For media inquiries you can contact Lila Brown with Ella Bee PR at lila@ellabeepr.com and my website at queenyonasda.com and my twitter.com/queenyonasda basically if you type in Queen YoNasDa on the engine thats me, I believe I'm the only YoNasDa in the world .

21. Any last words of wisdom?
I want to thank you DJ Benz you are a positve force, don't let no one tell you different. I want to tell the people that are pursuing your dreams that no matter how gray it looks there is always a light it may seem like you can't see it but God always has a way to get you out on HIS timing, there were times I wanted to end it all even my own life, but HE always showed me the light and hope and thats why I am here and able to be honored to do interviews and tell my story. I lost my mother in 2003, I was homeless, I lost children, I lost loved ones and was in horrible relationships but all this made me the strong queen I am today and that's why I was chosen to be called a Queen not because I have riches and act high and mighty but because I remained to be truthful and remain real and keep faith on God. I love you all !!!

STATE YOUR NAME CANNON: JACKI-O

Photobucket

Back in 2004 She was the #1 thing out of Miami. You can't go to a party without hearing her tracks. Usually with the bass there's shawties dropping it low when you hear " JackiJackiJackiJacki! JackiJackiJacki!" Even now you can't do a party without her music. With all the things she went through and what she accomplished, some of you would either agree or give an evil stare when she announces that she's the "Queen of the South". But it's more personal that that. You see a voluptuous but bold eye candy but what you going to know is this: She knows the ins and outs of this game. There's no bulls**t to this artist. Listen to her side of the truth: Jacki-O (Look at you. Some of you prolly sayin "Damn! That bitch is fine! lol)

It's a pleasure having this conversation with you. I think you've done a lot on female hip-hop. If this was the State of the Union Address on your career, what is your status as of today?
President…President of Jackmove Entertainment

How did you start rapping? Can you remember your first track?
I don’t remember what the first track was however I do remember when the stage bug bit me. I was in 6th grade singing "You Are So Beautiful"... I accidently got the part when my classmate didn’t come to school one day... luckily I had been practicing.

Tell me about Miami and its music scene.
Miami music has changed a great deal from when we first got attention, we had bass driven rap/booty music and the bpm's were a lot faster. Now Miami has become a melting pot for all kinds of music, reggaeton, soca, calypso, reggae, and so on... so we have a broader audience. As far as hip hop goes we have a southern based sound; however it wouldn’t be odd to hear an artist from Miami rapping over an RnB track or a popish beat.

What does the "Queen of the South" title mean to you?
It means a lot when I can piss someone off by saying it...it started off with me saying I was the Queen of the South because I knew I could ruffle feathers by saying it. I always felt like a queen despite my childhood, being raised in a very rough part of Miami. But then when I saw how me saying that I was a queen offended people, I decided to continue saying it and saying it louder and more arrogantly. It made me feel sad that people would want a female to think of herself as being anything but a queen, not sad for myself but sad for them. Queen is the highest rank, and despite the obstacles I will continue to feel like I am a queen as should all women.

I saw "Beef" the series and your conflicts with Khia over the "Queen" title. Who started this conflict? As far as today, is there any tension between you and any female M.C.?
Hey welcome to hip hop! I think people are going to take shots at you no matter who you are. I don’t entertain beef because it takes you off the focus of your craft. The hip-hop game is very competitive and when someone feels threatened they try to defend themselves and their fanbase. I don’t hold grudges nor do I have "beef" with anyone, although I am not a sucker, I understand it’s all a part of the game…people must know that there are consequences for whatever you do in life…when you start beefing with people to create a "buzz" for yourself it may not go as you plan.

Your opinions on Nicki Minaj:
Honestly, everybody has opinions but I can’t say yet, the jury is still out...so far she has done well.

Miami has a huge Haitian population. You also have a huge affiliation with the Zoe movement. How has the tragedy in Haiti affected you and what are your plans to help?
I am affected both mentally and spiritually. Mentally because I find myself in thought about it and wondering if I’ve done everything I truly can to help. Spiritually it affects me because it does something to my spirit when I see children without families, and although treatment and food is being supplied families are lost, hearts have been broken and you can’t fix that…please continue to send donations and pray...I ask God to strengthen our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

One rising star out of the underground is my homie Haitian Fresh. How did you linked up with him and Black Dada to do "I'm From Florida (my favorite track from Celebration Mixtape)?
That’s a good question... because I don’t know [laughs]…I worked with Haitian Fresh on a song prior to doing 'I’m from Florida' and I just recently worked with Black Dada on a song. We weren’t all in studio at one time when we did 'I’m from Florida” but it still came out nice…both are great artists and I hope to work with them again soon.

I know your mixtape "Griselda Blanco" is coming out very soon. Tell the people more about this tape. What can we expect from this anticipated project?
Well for those who don’t know Griselda Blanco was a woman that had her own way of thinking and her reputation precedes her. I used her character to tell of drug stories, war stories and just a woman of total control of her enemies to her allies.

Name 1 artist you would love to collaborate with: And one producer you would work with:
Too many to name. I would have loved to work with Pac. As far as producers go I love so many...Will.i.am.,Timbaland,(I’ve work with) ,Kanye West, and Dr Dre..but if you’re talking hood, Shawty red,Collipark (I’ve worked with) Jazzy pha (I’ve worked with), Zaytoven (I’ve worked with) K.E.( I’ve worked with)..still love Manny Fresh, Akon, the Runners... I told you it was a lot.

I got the press on your upcoming book, Relentless. All I can say is you speaking the raw truth. What made you decide to write Relentless?
When I got out of my contract it was a lot of negative things being said about me and lot of those things I didn’t deserve, and often times the press would report on it, and because of that people started painting their own picture of me I wanted people to know who I really am… so they can hear it from me and have them decide for themselves.

As I can see, and as I'm going through this industry, you get setbacks, like what you mentioned. What keeps you going after all the turmoil and betrayal?
Just knowing they would succeed in getting me to fail. If I stop…they would win

Do you see female rappers getting as much respect as the male rappers one day? What I mean is will there ever be a day when a female rapper can do business w/o a guy wanting to have sex with them?
No men are men [laughs Jacki-O]

When will the book come out because I will definitely get it!
''Relentless' is coming out this summer and pre-orders will start a month before…I talk about the music world, beefs, drama, sex scandals and just Miami as a whole. It’s a page turner.

If you were talking to a teenage girl who wants to be like Jacki-O, what would you tell her to advise her to be successful?
Not to be like Jacki-O but to be like herself…I would encourage her to find herself and when she does she may find that doesn’t need inspiration from me…she may just find herself being self-motivated…that drive is in everybody.

Tell me your one defining moment in your career.
When I started being independent and relying solely on myself. That defined not only my career but it defined who I am. Although I have a lot of memorable moments like awards, plaques and a few BET and Soul Train nominations, nothing defines me better than being independent. I welcome business opportunities to better my situations don’t get me wrong, but because of my independence I have experienced and learned things I would have never learned. When you take the scenic route you see more... [Laughs]

I’m going to be straight-forward on this question: Are you single or taken? If single, what type of man will draw interest to you? Does he have to be in the music industry?
Next question please [laughs]...no but seriously since I’ve been thru so much it would take a really special guy to get my attention.

Do you have any plans in the future besides music?
Yes, to continue to write, look fly and live good [laughs Jacki-O]

What are your next steps after "Griselda Blanco"?
That depends on my mood, I’m a true artist I live my life through my art, so who knows you could see me acting or doing anything

Contact info:jackmove305@gmail.com or http://twitter.com/JACKIOWORLD

Would you work with any up-and-coming DJs or artists like me? Lol
Sure I am always ready to work…!!!

As a DJ, one of our responsibilities is to show light on independent artists that's putting in work. Basically a Who's next in the game. I noticed this dude as he pulling in all stops to become a mogul, not just an artist. With his motive, this ain't the last time you hear from him, especially when I'm hosting his next tape, Warning Shots: Reloaded. First post of STATE YOUR NAME, GANGSTA.

1. Introduce yourself to the rest of the world.

What's popping world, this the kid Young-No, TGE Music Group, Team Randolph repersenter, going hard as always!

2. I see your grind. Blogspot, Fashion. mixtapes like coast to coast. u was on my homie dj ames tapes. ur grind is very respectable. So basically you adapting to this age that rappin aint the only way of making money anymore.

That was always apart of my plan, never just be a rapper. There's a bigger picture for me, that's why I keep my self in different business ventures to reach success.

3. How many people are on your team?

Honestly I can't put a number on my team, it varies every other day! Just know I have a solid team that will get the job done, the others are just affiliates.

4. How long you been rapping for? How was it from the start?

I've been rapping since 03, that's when I graduated from high school. This success road has it's up's and downs, but i'm still here getting business handled. My passion keeps me going, also my family!

5. How did team randolph came about?

Team Randolph started by just putting all our business ventures into one umbrella. We have so much going on that we had to narrow it down to just one name, that repersents all our companies into one body. Team Randolph was the most natural, so we ran with it.

6. What is the team goal.......3-5 years from now?
Being SUCCESSFUL!

7.Other things you like to do besides Rap?

Besides rap, I like to take it easy and relax with my family, spend time with the wifey and my daughter, Also I like to create new designs for the clothing. Basically just relax.

8. What you think about the game as of today? 5 years down the road

The game right now in my opinion is cool, I can't complain. There's going to be things you like, and there's going to be things you dislike. So right now, The game is 50/50. 5 years down the road, the position of hip-hop is going to be different, because Team Randolph is going to be running it! LOL!

Just to name a few, Jay-z, Lil' Wayne, Bun B, Juelz Santana, and i'm also rocking with B.o.B. and Drake.

10. You think there are more rappers than fans?

Nope! I think there's more fans then rappers, That's just my opinion.

11. Does the presidency of Barack Obama impacted you in any way? What lessons do you think an average black man can learn from this?

Barack Obama impacted me in a huge way, just becuase he's a black man in office, they said that could never happen. He showed me there's no limits to your vision, no matter your race, age, and ect. This should be a lesson for all, not just black men. Dream when you sleep, but when your awake live your visions.

12. any hardships you had to go through?

I can't even explain all my hardships, Just know this is not an easy road. If your not built for this grind, find something else to do ASAP!

13. how important is the dj? name 5 djs u admire

The DJ is very important in my opinon, I can't name just 5, but any DJ that's on there grind and keeping it humble i'm shouting you out! cause that means alot to Team Randolph and myself.

14. if you werent rapping what would you do by now?

If I wasn't rapping, I would still be in the music scene as a CEO of my company, helping upcoming artist live there dreams. Also just living life with my family, that's very important to me.
